    Position Summary

    The Branch Manager at Mackin, overseeing the Harrisburg Office, holds a pivotal management role responsible for the strategic direction, operational efficiency, and growth of the office. This role serves as the key liaison between the Pittsburgh Office and the Harrisburg Office, driving business initiatives, and ensuring alignment with Mackin’s objectives.

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Essential Duties

    • Oversee day-to-day operations, including project management, resource allocation, and client relationships
    • Manage financial aspects of the branch, including budgeting, cost control, and revenue generation (present quarterly at board meetings, where applicable)
    • Ensure compliance with all of Mackin’s policies, industry regulations, and safety standards
    • Act as a key liaison between the Pittsburgh Office and the Harrisburg Office, communicating and implementing company-wide directives and initiatives
    • Business Development
      • Lead and oversee the business development efforts for the Harrisburg Office
      • Identify and pursue new business opportunities and cultivate relationships with potential clients
      • Develop and maintain a robust network of industry contacts and strategic partnerships
      • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop marketing materials, proposals, and presentations to win new projects
    • Contract, Budget, and Project Management
      • Lead the contract process, ensuring favorable terms and conditions for Mackin
      • Oversee the development and management of project budgets for the Harrisburg Office
      • Monitor project progress, ensuring adherence to schedules, quality standards, & client expectations
      • Ensure projects are financially viable, and budgets are adhered to throughout the project lifecycle
      • Conduct regular financial analyses, identify cost-saving opportunities, and implement effective budget control measures
    • Client Relationship Management
      • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients, understand their needs and provide exceptional service
      • Act as an advisor to clients, offering strategic guidance and expertise throughout the project lifecycle
      • Resolve client issues and concerns promptly, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction
    • Team Development and Mentoring
      • Recruit, develop, and retain top talent within the Harrisburg Office
      • Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to enhance employee skills and capabilities
      • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and implement performance improvement plans, as necessary
      • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that promotes innovation, growth, and employee engagement
    • Manage petty cash, approve office expenses, and coordinate office space lease.
    • Contribute to the overall success of Mackin by supporting internal departments, providing exemplary service to clients, and striving to meet on-going initiatives to grow and develop the company

    Non-Essential Duties

    • Participate in job fairs and career fairs to support marketing initiatives and talent requisition  
    • Participate in professional and engineering society conferences
    • Contribute and serve on committees and subcommittees
    • Participate in research and development opportunities and projects
    • Advise management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, client relations, and/or inter-departmental relations
    • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice

     

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    Directly supervise and lead the Harrisburg staff, including project managers, engineers, bridge inspectors, and administrative personnel.

     

    System or Specialized Knowledge

    • PennDOT Programs, and ECMS and BMS2 Systems
    • AutoCAD/MicroStation and InRoads
    • SimTraffic and Highway Capacity Software (HCS)
    • OpenRoads, PowerProject Scheduling, AutoTab, and Tab Wizard
    • Deltek Ajera
    • Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
    • Computers, Printers, and Electronics
    Job Requirements

    Education and/or Experience

    Years of Experience - Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in the engineering and/or business development field or equivalent combination of education and experience (management experience is a plus).

    Education - BA or BS Degree required

    Degree or Formal Training - Civil Engineering, Business, or a related discipline

    License, Certificate or Registration - Professional Engineering (PE) license in PA is required (PE in Ohio, Maryland, and/or West Virginia are a plus)
