General Statement Of Duties:
Provides supervision to the Probation Supervisors, which includes coaching and mentoring supervisors, establishing operating procedures and assisting in administering probation programs. Assists in the operations of the Probation Department. The Probation Manager leads and conducts highly independent project work, is a key member on various committees and projects.
Distinguishing Factors:
The Probation Manager position is distinguished from Probation Supervisor classifications due to formalized supervisory responsibilities and management of Probation Supervisors. The average department ratio of Supervisor to Manager is 7 to1.

Participates in the recruitment, selection, motivation or discipline of employees; as well as provides orientation and ongoing training, mentoring, employee development, leadership and coaching.
Reviews, approves and makes recommendations on subordinates’ work. May provide coverage for subordinate work or find replacement coverage.
Assigns duties and responsibilities.
Attends meetings and training as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisor Responsibilities:
Has supervisory accountability for other employees. Plans, directs and coordinates activities for a unit, units, or probation staff. Duties may include scheduling and assigning of work, training in all facets of work, quality control, and decisions impacting the pay, status and tenure of others.
Minimum Education:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree, with major course work preferably in Public Administration or Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work or related field. Must have worked a minimum of three years of management experience and completion of the Management Track of the Colorado Judicial Branch Probation Officer Career Track Program and the 40 hour Level 1 Safety course as per state policy. If field visits are being conducted, must complete the Safety Training Level II course as per state policy. As a condition of continued employment, the employee must complete Mandatory Supervisory Training required by the Colorado Judicial Branch.
OR
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work preferably in Public Administration or Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work or related field and five years of management experience. Upon hire and as a condition of continued employment, the employee must:
Complete a 40 hour Level 1 Safety course as per state policy. If field visits are being conducted, must complete the Safety Training Level II course as per state policy;
Complete the Management Track of the Colorado Judicial Branch Probation Officer Career Track Program within the first two years of employment; and
Complete Mandatory Supervisory Training required by the Colorado Judicial Branch.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Individuals will be required to successfully complete the safety training per state policy. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. This position is subject to varying and unpredictable situations; may handle emergency or crisis situations; is subject to many interruptions; may handle multiple calls and inquiries simultaneously; and may occasionally handle absentee replacement on short notice.
