    The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is a federally chartered, nonpartisan institution that was created by the US Congress to serve as America’s national memorial to the victims of the Holocaust and an educational institution dedicated to the history and lessons of the Holocaust. The Museum seeks to educate Americans from all 50 states and all walks of life as well as international audiences. The Museum has three areas of expertise: Holocaust remembrance, Holocaust scholarship and education, and genocide prevention.

    This is a full-time donated position (non-Federal) paid with the Museum’s private funds. Salary is commensurate with experience.

    This position is located in Washington, DC and is hybrid telework eligible, within the local commuting area of the Museum worksite.

    Information about the role

    The System Administrator has responsibility for the planning, designing, development, and deployment approach for the enterprise-wide infrastructure and systems of the Museum. Depending on the project, at times the incumbent will work as a team leader or member.

    Duties, and Responsibilities for the role

    • Serves as subject matter expert for new enterprise-wide infrastructure deployments with Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Mac, Infrastructure as it pertains to physical servers, virtual servers, hypervisors, networking, data management (backup/restore) and storage area Networks.
    • Serves as a principal planner and advisor to Network Systems' top management in the development, deployment, integration, operation and management of large scale systems.
    • Develops the deployment approach for the system integration, operation, and management of large-scale implementations of high-level and/or widespread systems that constitute new enterprise-class systems.
    • Plans and directs activities necessary to ensure the availability of technologies and the supporting technology infrastructure. Specifically, the incumbent performs or oversees the following functions:
      • Scope, present and deliver successful client-facing enterprise projects
      • Mentor more junior specialists in advanced networking and infrastructure concepts
      • Provide escalated support to internal engineers for client issues by troubleshooting and applying knowledge via helpdesk calls, service tickets and email requests
      • Record and document work completed and in-progress
      • Serve in after-hours escalation-support rotation
    • Coordinates and performs the design and implementation of new IT systems and expansions or modifications to existing systems, including the implementation of various system configurations.
    • Designs and conducts comprehensive studies to develop long-range information technology (IT) forecasts and recommendations affecting broad areas of future operations.
    • Develops Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) templates, for use in new server deployments and to harden existing servers and workloads.
    • Tracks the status of IT system design projects through the planning, development, modification, maintenance, and evaluation phases.
    • Develops, oversees, and monitors recovery plans for system failure situations and utilizes knowledge, skill, tools, and documentation to isolate the root causes of issues.
    • Serves as Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) and/or project leader for advanced system software/hardware project efforts, to include; management of budget and procurement, and development of overall plans, criteria, and program specifications.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

      Minimum Qualifications for the role

      • 8 years of experience with systems architecture, topology, and protocols and the ability to plan, design, develop, and integrate IT systems.
      • Knowledge of IT tools and techniques sufficient to optimize the functionality and security of systems and to identify needed system configurations, modifications, and management and to relate all aspects of the work to user requirements; skill in adapting proven approaches in the formulation of system and security design specifications for new systems and major changes to existing systems.
      • Knowledge of IT infrastructure/architecture, and the ability to propose alternative approaches in applications system development; identify and resolve problems related to Microsoft Windows infrastructure and identify and resolve technical issues related to interoperability with networking equipment.
      • Knowledge of information processing standards, policies, and procedures and the ability to develop and implement local standards, programming specifications, and documentation.
      • Familiarity with Information Management Area (IMA) standards, policies, and system design approaches sufficient to recognize appropriate security solutions.
      • Experience in managing new deployments and/or upgrading technology.
      • Knowledge of Federal contracting regulations.
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Maintains flexibility amid new information, and adapts to changing priorities to carry out duties.
      • Teamwork: Works cooperatively with others, inside and outside the team/Branch/Division/Office, to accomplish shared objectives. Actively listens to others and presents own ideas clearly, concisely, and accurately in written and oral form.

        Preferred Qualifications for the role

        • Window/Linux/Mac/VmWare/Hypervisor experience.
        • Knowledge of storage area networks (SAN), network attached storage (NAS).
        • Knowledge of basic networking.
        • SQL Server, clustering, and some DBA experience.
        • Understanding of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) V3 framework.
        • Project Management knowledge.
