Biomedical Engineering Technician delivers biomedical equipment services that provide safety testing, repair, maintenance, and user support of biomedical clinical and research equipment. Assembles, installs, repairs, and maintains a variety of medical equipment. Being a Biomedical Engineering Technician tests the functionality of equipment and takes accuracy, sensitivity, and selectivity measurements to calibrate devices. Coordinates with medical staff and vendors to troubleshoot problems, resolve equipment malfunctions and enable new devices. Additionally, Biomedical Engineering Technician supports medical staff with equipment operations training. Typically requires an associate degree. Typically requires Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Biomedical Engineering Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. SUMMARY OF POSITION :
Maintains clinical equipment through the effective use of the Medical Equipment Management Plan in compliance with the Joint Commission Standards. Performs a variety of routine tasks associated with the installation, preventative maintenance, calibration and repair of a limited scope of stand-alone biomedical equipment under guidance and direct supervision. May also coordinate vendor maintenance activities. Demonstrates basic knowledge of the job, activity or function and requires supervision or mentoring on advanced assignments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate's degree in Biomedical or Electronics Technology or related field or equivalent military training required.
1 to 3 years of related experience required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Basic understanding and skills related to general electromechanical systems and devices, including basic clinic equipment, SCDs, pumps, etc.
Basic understanding of safety issues surrounding medical equipment.
Basic understanding of both local and national public safety and regulatory issues.
Ability to apply basic safety concepts to work and patient care environment.
Ability to read, understand and apply existing contract requirements.
Ability to communicate effective both verbally and in writing to groups or individuals.
Basic ability to build customer and vendor relationships.
Ability to interact with others in a way that promotes trust.
