Biomedical Engineering Technician delivers biomedical equipment services that provide safety testing, repair, maintenance, and user support of biomedical clinical and research equipment. Assembles, installs, repairs, and maintains a variety of medical equipment. Being a Biomedical Engineering Technician tests the functionality of equipment and takes accuracy, sensitivity, and selectivity measurements to calibrate devices. Coordinates with medical staff and vendors to troubleshoot problems, resolve equipment malfunctions and enable new devices. Additionally, Biomedical Engineering Technician supports medical staff with equipment operations training. Typically requires an associate degree. Typically requires Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Biomedical Engineering Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.     BASIC FUNCTION:

    Work closely with faculty, and undergraduate and graduate students to design and construct experimental apparatuses. Support teaching activities. Maintain the operation of the Biomedical Engineering Laboratory.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Requisition electronic and other relevant components to support the Biomedical Engineering laboratory courses and capstone design projects.

    Construct experimental apparatuses. Ensure that installation and operation of equipment is safe with proper electrical protection.

    Develop and demonstrate hardware and software projects in support of the Biomedical Engineering undergraduate curriculum.

    Manage the Biomedical Engineering Laboratory and support teaching activities.

    OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Perform additional duties as required.

    LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:

    Personal computers, printers; word processing, database management software. Laboratory equipment.

    Required Qualifications
    REQUIRED:

    1. High school diploma or GED.

    2. Minimum three years of hands-on experience in the field of biomedical engineering and/or electrical engineering.

    3. Demonstrated training in engineering systems (i.e., 3D printing, hardware prototyping, breadboard circuits, printed circuit board design, bioinstrumentation, electronics, microprocessor-based systems, firmware and software development, etc.)

    4. Demonstrated strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

    5. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

    6. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

    Preferred Qualifications
    PREFERRED:

    1. Demonstrated working knowledge with hands-on projects related to a variety of biomedical engineering applications, including electronic and mechanical devices.

    2. Demonstrated experience with microprocessor-based designs, Arduino hardware and firmware, C/C programming, and 3D printing.

    3. Demonstrated experience with app development for Android devices and 3D printing.

    4. Demonstrated experience with techniques using computer-aided software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and basic machining skills).

    5. Demonstrated experience with circuit design and layout applications.

    6. Demonstrated knowledge of data acquisition for human and animal experiments.

    7. Demonstrated knowledge of medical device regulations by the Food and Drug Administration.
