Introduction

Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives (MBI) seeks a dynamic Advancement Director to spearhead our fundraising efforts with a focus on annual giving, our Blue Beaker Capital Campaign, and grant writing initiatives. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a proven track record of successfully managing fundraising campaigns, cultivating donor relationships, and securing financial support to advance our organization’s mission.

MBI is focused on establishing Central Massachusetts as a global biotech and biomanufacturing hub through our programs that are focused on incubating early-stage healthcare companies, connecting local residents to transformational careers, and advocating for the region’s success.

The Advancement Director will report to the President & CEO and be an integral member of the management team.

Essential Functions

Support the MBI Brand

· Support MBI branding campaign efforts, ensure consistency in messaging, and represent MBI at relevant events in Worcester and Boston/Cambridge.

· Manage creation of compelling fundraising appeals that demonstrate our role in advancing the region, its residents, and healthcare.

· Cultivate and expand our list of potential donors and partners, conduct prospect research, manage CRM, and find areas of common alignment.

· Structure and manage a stewardship and donor relations program to recognize and thank donors for their support.

· Initiate and maintain meaningful relationships with potential donors and partners to foster long term support to our mission.

Annual Giving Campaign

· Develop and implement strategies to increase annual giving revenue through sustainable corporate partnerships that maximize mutual goals.

· Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships that provide access to support and services for our clients.

Capital Campaign

· Manage creation and distribution of compelling campaign materials that reflect the important influence our efforts have on the community and support funding efforts to meet expansion and growth goals.

· Identify and prioritize major gift prospects through research, conduct proactive outreach and coordinate meetings with prospects, solicit donations, track activity and progress, and follow up on deliverables.

Grant Writing

· Research funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government partners that align with our organization’s priorities and programs.

· Write persuasive grant proposals, oversee grant reporting, and develop and maintain relationships with grant agencies.

Qualifications

· Minimum of five years’ experience in fundraising with a proven track record of running campaigns, soliciting donations, and meeting fundraising targets.

· Experience in successfully identifying and applying for relevant grant opportunities.

· Strong written and verbal communications skills with the ability to articulate the organization’s mission to diverse audiences.

· Excellent organizational and project management skills to ensure a successful donation process.

· Desire to work in a strong and nimble team environment driven by a commitment to mission-based activities.

· Preference to candidates with existing relationships with local philanthropy network.

· Flexibility to adjust schedule to work some evenings as necessary.
