    Summary of Position

    The Biologist is engaged in all aspects of environmental related projects including, but not limited to, biological surveys, biological assessments, wetland delineations, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation resource analysis. The position would be responsible for data collection, field surveys, agency coordination, environmental permitting, and technical report authorship.

    Work will be performed independently as well as with a team of natural resource specialists and scientists.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Research regulatory material, publications, precedents, input from other subject matter specialists to include environmental engineers, archaeologists, and fish and wildlife biologists, to determine probable impacts, possible alternatives, and necessary mitigation requirements for a variety of environmental regulatory documents such as environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, and other compliance documents.
    • Design and set-up of new field projects, studies, and short-term field surveys and performance of natural community and wildlife habitat assessments, stream assessments and vegetation surveys.
    • Collect, interpret, analyze data and summarize data for reports.
    • Prepare and write scientific reports, resource sections of NEPA analyses, environmental documents and technical memorandums/reports including biological assessments, habitat mitigation plans, and wetland delineations.
    • Apply scientific expertise to interpret and present results of field and desktop studies.
    • Interact professionally with current and prospective client to foster business relationships.
    • Coordinate with and obtain data from other federal, state and local agencies.
    • Recommend alternatives to proposed projects or changes in procedures, locations, etc., to minimize environmental impacts.
    • Participate in briefings, seminars, conferences, training sessions and public meetings on environmental matters as needed.
    • Familiarity with federal/state environmental regulations, especially those related to wetlands, waters, and wildlife.
    • Assist with business development and the expansion of our Natural Resources Program in the southwest and intermountain western regions.
    • Serve as Project Manager.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in biology, natural resources, wildlife management, botany, wildlife biology, ecology or equivalent.
    • A working knowledge of the NEPA process, and environmental document preparation.
    • Demonstrated ability to accurately analyze information, make sound decisions and meet deadlines.
    • Demonstrated experience completing environmental permitting projects.
    • Minimum five years of relevant experience.
    • Exceptional skill with Microsoft Suite programs.
    • Some knowledge of statistics and database management.
    • GIS experience to include ArcGIS or similar platforms.
    • Technical writing and editing skills.
    • Exceptional communication and client relationship skills.
    • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
    • Ability to successfully manage concurrent projects and demonstrate flexibility with shifting priorities and timelines.
    • Positive, can-do approach to assignments and tasks.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Demonstrated experience in assisting with sensitive species surveys, avian surveys, wetland delineations, vegetation monitoring, and other field assignments.
    • Knowledge of rare, threatened, or endangered plants and animals in the Southwest Region.
    • Knowledge of the NEPA, Endangered Species Act and Clean Water Act.
    • Demonstrated field work experience and ability to lead/guide technical staff.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to satisfactorily pass pre-employment and post-employment drug/alcohol tests and background check.
    • Ability to travel and work in field locations, sometimes remote potentially challenging terrain.
    • Ability to lift 20 lbs.
