Position Summary :
Reports to the Chief of Security. Directly supervises the shift Lieutenants. Responsible for the custody and discipline of inmates in unit in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives.
Essential Functions :
assist in formulating security and work procedures.
Provide appropriate information to other personnel.
Maintain accountability of staff, inmates, and property; adhere to safety practices.
It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his / her capabilities as determined by management.
Education and Experience Requirements :
High School Diploma or Equivalent and Four (4) years full-time, wage-earning correctional custody or law enforcement experience to include two (2) years in the supervision of employees.
Operational Review Sergeant or Security Threat Group Sergeant experience may be substituted for the required supervisory experience for a maximum substitution of one (1) year.
At least one (1) year of the required supervisory experience must be mid-level manager. Thirty (30) semester hours with a maximum if six (6) semester hours in Criminal Justice from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE) may be substituted for one (1) year of required non-supervisory experience.
Valid driver’s license in the state of Mississippi with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
Post Hire Requirements :
Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements to include physical agility testing and pass annual background check, which must be approved by TDCJ.
Must successfully complete DHO / CS training within ninety (90) days of employment.
