Infection Control Nurse

A local healthcare provider has an immediate opening for an Infection Control Nurse

Position Description:

Infection Control Nurse: This is a highly responsible position and serves the purpose of ensuring an environment conducive to the prevention and control of the spread of infection throughout the facility.

Responsibilities:

Infection Control Nurse:

1. Establishing an effective agency-wide program for the surveillance, prevention and control of infection.

2. Developing and effective infection control program and policy and procedures addressing the surveillance, prevention and control infection.

3. Reviewing and revising as necessary, all policies and procedures related to infection control.

4. Developing indicators for activities related to proper infection control practices and environmental surveillance activities.

5. Implementing and documenting surveillance activities.

6. Preparing reports for the Performance Improvement Committee regarding surveillance activities and issues related to patient infection control.

7. Providing and coordinating necessary orientation, on-the-job and in-service training for personnel related to infection control issues, certification and licensing. Working in conjunction with the organization’s staff and physicians in all areas identified above.

8. Acts as liaison between Infection Control committee and departments of the hospital.

9. Conducts in-service education to maintain a high level of awareness of infection possibilities and methods for prevention of control of nosocomial infections.

10. Maintains regular contact with patient areas for case finding of patient infection or communicable diseases for follow up and for supervision of infection control procedures.

11. Establishes and implements teaching programs for all hospital personnel regarding infectious hazards in the hospital setting.

12. Attends all meetings of the Infection Control Committee and assists in the implementation of committee policy.

13. Oversees the employee health program including TB and Hepatitis compliance.

Education:

· Associate or Bachelor’s Degree as a Registered Nurse.

· Current License as an RN

· Current CPR certification

Work Experience:

· Minimum of 2 years’ experience as Infection Control nurse preferred.
