Behavioral Health Director oversees the study and treatment of patients with emotional, mental, or psychological disorders. Develops, implements, and updates strategic initiatives, programs, and services. Being a Behavioral Health Director manages and directs the operations of behavioral health services. Uses knowledge of behavioral health research and trends to ensure the department's practices are up-to-date and effective. Additionally, Behavioral Health Director establishes training programs and supports and supervises staff. Ensures all behavioral health operations comply with clinical guidelines and regulations. Requires an advanced degree in psychology or related field. Typically reports to top management. The Behavioral Health Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Director of Behavioral Health (Clinical Psychologist)

  • CareSTL Health is seeking an experienced Licensed Clinical Psychologist to join our team as Director of Behavioral Health. If you have a comprehensive understanding of integrated health care and is experienced in operational and quality management initiatives related to behavioral health, we want to hear from you!

    As the Director of Behavioral Health, you will lead a team of dedicated staff and oversee the integration of behavioral health services supporting CareSTL Health-covered population enrolled in a variety of health insurance and self-funded products. In addition, you will be responsible for strategic planning and direction for the behavioral health components of CareSTL Health Care Management Services programs.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Provides essential clinical services directly to patients (of all ages) referred to the Behavioral Health department by the referring Primary care doctors.
    • Collects data about opportunities for collaboration between medical care and behavioral health care, i.e., exchange of information, appropriate diagnosis, treatment, and referral of behavioral disorders commonly seen in primary care, and appropriate use of psychotropic medications. Develops and implements education programs that communicate and achieve effective and clinically appropriate use of behavioral health services for providers, members, and others within the organization. Advances continuity and coordination between medical care and behavioral health care to reduce fragmentation, especially for people with special needs such as severe and persistent mental illness.
    • Directs activities to improve the coordination of behavioral healthcare and general medical care, i.e., collaboration with behavioral healthcare practitioners, data analysis to identify improvement opportunities, and collaborative action.
    • Serves as behavioral health subject matter expert and advisor to other areas within CareSTL Health. Conducts ongoing behavioral health and governmental regulatory research to maintain competitive and compliant coverage of behavioral health-related services, products, and medical management policies. Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with CareSTL Health policies and applicable laws.
    • Provides business leadership working closely with senior management to ensure the goals and objectives for behavioral health integration are established, communicated, and achieved.

    OTHER FUNCTIONS:

    • Integrates behavioral health management components into Primary Care services.
    • Assures data exchange between the health plan, behavioral health care, and vendor organizations to support clinical quality and patient experience measurement and improvement.
    • Serves as liaison to and is responsible for the oversight of delegated behavioral health vendor(s) in accordance with applicable standards and regulations

    JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

    • Master's Degree in Psychology required; Doctorate in Psychology, preferred.
    • Fully licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in the State of Missouri required.

    Experience:

    • A minimum of three (3) years of management experience required.
    • A minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience in delivering behavioral health is required.
    • Experience in an integrated healthcare environment preferred.
    • Experience in Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and NCQA Standards preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Good oral and verbal communication skills
    • Good organizational and self-motivational skills
    • Knowledge of DSM IV 5 axis diagnosis required
    • Knowledge and competencies with harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and relevant treatment modalities that are being used in the field
    • Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures used in behavioral health to detect, diagnose, and treat mental illness as well as the care and control of chronic and acute behavioral health conditions

    Transportation Requirement:

    • Must have reliable transportation

    Supervisory Responsibility:

    • Behavioral Health Department

    • Clinic hours are Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
