    SUMMARY

    The Districtwide Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) serves students with Emotional/Behavioral Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and health impairments who exhibit challenging behaviors as well as supports teachers, paraeducators, and administrators in buildings. The purpose is to facilitate behavior management across a wide variety of needs and provide district-wide support and professional learning regarding behavior intervention techniques. The position provides behavior-analytic services as well as the oversight of Registered Behavior Technicians and the implementation of behavior analytic Interventions. This specialist will also provide guidance and direction in the development of data collection systems, analysis, and use of data-based decision-making for behavioral goals.


    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Serve as a resource, support, and consultant to, administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers.
    • Provide technical assistance and program compliance support for district staff to meet the learning needs of students with autism, emotional/behavioral disorders, and other health impairments in their least restrictive environment.
    • Provide professional learning and conduct functional assessments of behavior for students with complex and/or severe behaviors in accordance with both Federal and State laws and regulations.
    • Develop materials and provide resources for professional learning to administrators, educators, para-educators, and parents/guardians in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Right Response, and/or other evidence-based methodologies related to addressing the needs of students with behavior difficulties.
    • Plan and oversee the development and implementation of programs, policies, and best practices related to instruction using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for students with autism and other disabilities.
    • Create and assist District staff with the development and implementation of behavior plans, ABA programs, and other appropriate programs for students with Autism and/or other disabilities that present behavior/learning challenges.
    • Facilitate and conduct functional behavior assessments, and develop/revise positive behavior intervention plans using reinforcement and reinforcement schedules, data collections, and progress monitoring.
    • Consult, support, and model effective behavioral and social instructional practices to struggling learners.
    • Manage assaultive student behaviors, e.g., Right Response, and/or other evidence-based methodologies.
    • Work with students who exhibit inappropriate behaviors and provide support and professional learning for staff who work with those students.
    • Assist students who are transitioning from alternative programs to regular school programs.
    • Collaborate with public and private agencies to offer programs that foster pro-social skills and prevent violent behavior of students to strengthen families and students.
    • Collect data and prepare a variety of reports to document case history, assessments, and treatment.
    • Travel from site to site and/or perform necessary home visits to provide direct treatment, consultation, and collaboration for students and families.
    • Uphold and assist in enforcing administrative regulations and board policy.
    • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect children, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities.
    • Function as a Right Response Trainer, delivering training to staff at all levels throughout the District.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Certifications Required: ESA Certification as a School Behavior Analyst. Hold a valid Educational Staff Associate (ESA) certification and a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certificate from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB)
    • Successful school consultation and support experience is preferred.
    • Valid Restraint Certification.
    • Three years experience working as a behavior or autism specialist or related field preferred.
    • Recent experience analyzing, defining, measuring, assessing, characterizing, and ultimately modifying behavior in children ages 3-21.
    • Experience writing behavior plans for students with behavior difficulties including students with autism and other disabilities and conducting Functional Behavior Assessments.
    • ABA or similar research-based training experience and training.
    • Experience effectively collaborating with colleagues to fulfill common departmental/program goals and objectives.
    • Demonstrate mature behavior and ability to use sound judgment in working with students, parents, staff, and the community.
    • Valid WA State Driver’s License.

    • Ability to maintain knowledge of best practices and laws governing behavioral supports for students with disabilities.
    • Ability to work under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods.
    • Ability to lead, guide, and coordinate others.
    • Ability to travel throughout the District; reliable transportation; appropriate auto insurance.

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

    Salary and work year are determined by the negotiated agreement, subject to the needs of the District.


    Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be completed before employment commences. The successful candidate for this position must complete a fingerprinted background check with the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Employment is contingent upon clearance of the background check.

    SICK LEAVE - All regular, non-substitute employees receive 12 sick leave days (prorated based on FTE) and paid time off. Substitute employees receive sick leave per RCW 49.46.210.


    PAID TIME OFF - All regular, non-substitute employees receive paid time off, including annual and/or vacation leave. Paid time off varies by position and work year. Refer to the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement or salary schedule for details.
