Hours: 15 hours per week; part-time
Salary: $14/hour; non-exempt
Position Overview:
KC Pet Project is hiring for one part-time Barista at our new shelter, the Kansas City Campus for Animal Care (KCCAC). This position would work in the coffee shop located in the atrium of the new campus.
Daily Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receive, greet and taking guest orders at the counter.
- Use and following bar SOP checklists.
- Honor customers by providing quick, friendly, and personal service aligned with our vendor’s spirit.
- Initiates dialogue and develops rapport with customers by learning their names, favorite drinks and food items.
- Receives payments and returns proper change.
- Keep records of spoilage and wastage.
- Maintain a clean environment at all times: bar, floors, stock area, etc.
- Displays a quest for knowledge encompassing the entire coffee culture, engaging in everything it takes to deliver the finest, most flavorful cup of coffee possible – including a developed coffee palate.
- Works as an effective company employee, liaising with others and contributing to our overall customer and employee experience.

Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, see, touch, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to drive or ride in a motor vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift up to 50lbs and routinely move or lift 25lbs.
Qualifications/Educational Background:
- Minimum of a High School Diploma, or a GED or 2 years in the field or in a related area, or suitable combination of education and relevant experience preferred.
- Demonstrate a motivational tone and establish a high degree of people-focused optimism.
- Able to work alongside customer service teams.
- Have a love for animals and helping them find forever homes.
- Have the ability to be attentive and responsive to the emotional needs of others as well as maintaining the objective needs of the situation.
- Must enjoy working in a people oriented and socially interactive environment.
- A knowledge of Clover POS system is preferred.
