    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

    Under the direction of the Park Management Team, this position is responsible for complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work including performing all phases in the daily operation and maintenance of park facilities, grounds, and equipment for Goose Island State Park. Operates all types of equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers, hand tools, and power tools. Provides quality visitor services by issuing permits, collecting revenue, providing information, and registering visitors using an automated registration system. Assists in enforcing park rules and regulations, performs resource management tasks, and interprets the parks natural resources. Completes all reports as needed. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


    Qualifications


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

    Graduation from High School or GED.


    Experience:

    Three years of facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.


    Licensure:

    Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid class “C” Texas driver’s license;

    NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required licenses.


    ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:

    Experience:

    Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Experience:

    Experience working with the public;

    Experience in customer service;

    Experience in outdoor education;

    Experience in implementing a safety program;

    Experience with State Office of Risk Management (SORM) and/or SSO training;

    Experience working with volunteers;

    Experience in using power equipment;

    Experience in using heavy equipment.


    Licensure:

    Current Texas Non-Political Pesticide Applicator’s license.


    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Knowledge of general facility, equipment, and grounds maintenance;

    Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial, and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks;

    Knowledge of the construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems;

    Knowledge of building materials;

    Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use;

    Required to work hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays;

    Required to respond to emergencies and on-call situations;

    Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;

    Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

    Required to operate a State vehicle;

    Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays;

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures;

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
