POSITION TITLE: COMMERCIAL BANKING OFFICER
REPORTS TO: REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT
DEPARTMENT: LENDING
DIVISION: COMMERCIAL
POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for originating larger commercial and commercial real estate loan relationships; for acting as a loan product specialist; for the ongoing management of a portfolio of commercial loans; and for supporting Bank products and services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Loan origination: Originate new commercial and commercial real estate loans within the limits of the Commercial Banking Division (generally loan relationship well above $500,000), according to established Bank policy and procedures; meet or exceed established objectives for dollar volumes in loan originations; meet or exceed established standards for customer service.
Provide quality customer service throughout the loan origination process. Interview and counsel loan customers, matching the financing needs of the customer to the various loan programs offered by the Bank. Respond in a professional manner to questions regarding rates, policies and practices of the Bank relative to commercial banking. Obtain required documentation such as appraisals or verifications. Review and analyze the loan application and all related documentation on the borrower and, where applicable, the property or other collateral. Determine appropriate loan structure and terms/conditions and approve loans within the limits of lending authority; refer larger, qualified loans to the Regional Vice President and Senior Commercial Banking Officer with a recommendation for approval according to established Bank policy. Review all documentation for loan closings to ensure completeness and compliance with all Bank requirements; oversee closing of loans originated. Refer questions or problems to the Regional Vice President and/or Senior Commercial Banking Officer.
Business development: Establish and maintain contact with local individuals, realtors, businesses and other centers of influence within the Bank's market area through direct calls, realtor and business organization gatherings and other functions to actively solicit new business for the Bank, keep them current on the benefits of working with the Bank, inform them of any new lending or deposit programs offered by the Bank and inquire about the credit needs/concerns in the community. Actively build the Bank’s customer base and market share.
Refer leads to other Bank staff members as appropriate. Meet or exceed established goals for business development.
Market trends: Monitor market trends relating to competition, banking products, deposit rates, advertising programs, etc. in the Bank's market area. Report to the Regional Vice President and/or Senior Commercial Banking Officer on market trends and make recommendations as appropriate.
Portfolio management: Monitor the status and manage an assigned portfolio of commercial relationships. Ensure that all credit administrative tasks (i.e. line renewals, annual revies, file memos, collection of financial statements), and other follow-up is maintained up-to-date and received on a timely basis. Work with the Regional Vice President and/or Senior Commercial Banking Officer as appropriate if potential problems are noted. Periodically communicate with customers to monitor use of the loan funds and the status of the business, to determine if other banking needs exist and to ensure consistent customer satisfaction.
Support Bank products/services: Maintain knowledge of current KSB products and services. Actively utilize as many Bank products and services as possible in order to fully understand their features and benefits and to be able to communicate effectively with customers and prospective customers.
Talk to customers and listen for “cues and clues” to determine needs; respond to customer inquiries and evaluate their needs; suggest Bank products/services to customers to meet their needs; make referrals to other Bank personnel as appropriate.
Community/public relations: Actively participate in community organizations and events. Represent the Bank in the community.
Other outside activities: Actively participate in industry trade group meetings and educational programs to remain abreast of current issues and requirements affecting Bank operations and job performance.
Management committees: Participate in any and all employee and department specific meetings.
Other duties: Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality. Work at other Bank branches as needed for customer service, operational, or training purposes. Attend and participate in Bank meetings. Attend internal and external training to improve skills and knowledge relevant to the commercial banking officer position.
