Testing Clerk

  • Duties

    • Assists in the conduct of test material inventories as required and ensures strict accountability and security of all testing materials.
    • Conducts aptitude and qualification examinations at Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) and Military Entrance Test (MET) sites.
    • Briefs applicants, distributes and proctors examinations, scores exams, performs quality control of examination and applicable applicant information.
    • Scores enlistment and high school tests using automated and non-automated methods.
    • Ensures 100% security and accountability of all accountable test material.
    • Operates a variety of office automation equipment.
    • Performs data query using a variety of methods for high school Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) scores and ensures appropriate data is placed into required repositories to assist with the enlistment process.
    • Assists in conducting test material inventories as required and ensure strict accountability and security of all testing materials.

    Conditions of Employment

    • Position requires conducting test sessions at remote sites, to include administration of high school tests at inner city, rural, and/or at-risk schools with large populations (greater than 100 students).
    • Incumbent will be required to handle accountable test material.
    • Incumbent will be required to cross-train into other functions of the MEPS (such as processing) and performs these functions as required.
    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
    • Must possess or have ability to obtain a driver's license.
    • Evening and weekend work is required (if the MEPS conducts night testing, this work will entail night shift work when the Test Clerk is the only employee in the building) and detailed below:
    • If applicable, evenings: 1130-2000, Saturdays: 0530-1430, Sundays: 1400-2000, Morning Opening Shift: 0530–1430.
    • May require local travel and temporary duty (TDY) business travel up to 90% of the time (may require hotel stay for multiple nights to meet mission requirements).

    In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.     Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) administering aptitude and qualification examinations, scoring exams, performing quality control of exams and applicable applicant information; AND 2) using automated software and equipment to maintain testing data and applicant information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

    Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

    OR

    Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
