Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically requires a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). May sometimes require Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). Typically reports to a director. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget.   • General Description of Duties
    The purpose of this position is to direct and manage the overall program of instrumental music and the marching band for Franklin High School. The successful candidate will provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band activities and ensure compliance with all state and district requirements.

    SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    Essential Job Functions:

    Directs and manages the overall program of instrumental music and marching band for the district. Provides students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band activities and ensures compliance with all state and district requirements.

    Responsibilities
    • Responsible for instructing secondary school students in the field of instrumental band music and creating a safe and orderly learning environment
    • Position motivates students to develop an interest in and an appreciation of the art of band performance music
    • Position develops knowledge, skills, and talents of students in the field of music, utilizing a variety of instructional techniques appropriate to students' interests and abilities
    • Instructs secondary school students in developing knowledge and skills in band in accordance with the course of study adopted by the Board of Education
    • Demonstrates techniques to students in band instrumental concepts
    • Develops clear and concise instructional lesson plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of preparation, instruction, and rehearsal and performance time
    • Provides individual and small group instruction and adapts the curriculum to the needs of students with varying abilities
    • Uses a variety of instructional techniques and musical repertoire appropriate for the ages and skill level of students
    • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and creates a safe, orderly, and effective environment for learning during practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances
    • Instructs students in the proper care and use of equipment
    • Organizes storage areas and controls the use of materials and equipment to prevent loss, abuse, or injury
    • Maintains an organized and workable inventory of all music and equipment related to the band program
    • Makes minor adjustments to musical equipment and requests repairs as appropriate
    • Evaluates student performance and growth in knowledge and understanding and prepares regular progress reports

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:


    • Must possess effective instrumental delivery techniques and excellent communication skills
    • Must possess and demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of music techniques and skills

    Education / Certifications / Experience

    Bachelor's degree required. Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Music.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public using the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending, grasping, fingering, repetitive motion, and reaching. Occasional stooping and kneeling. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds rarely. Requires timely and regular adherence to established work schedules.     $51,302 - $79,321 / Per Year

    Salary will be based on job-related creditable years of full-time, verified work experience. Entry-level salary will be awarded at the time of hire. Upon the return of employment verification forms from the candidate's current and previous employers, the salary will be adjusted if creditable full-time experience is confirmed.
