Audiologist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats a variety of hearing, balance, and ear disorders. Administers and interprets a variety of tests, such as air and bone conduction, speech reception, and discrimination tests to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment, site of damage, and effects on comprehension and speech. Being an Audiologist evaluates test results in relation to behavioral, social, educational, and medical information obtained from patients, families, teachers, and other professionals. Reviews charts, test results, and other patient data to understand issues and develop treatment programs to alleviate symptoms and treat disorders. Additionally, Audiologist monitors and evaluates treatment progress and adjusts care plan as necessary. Programs, fits, and adjusts hearing aids for customers. May require Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) in some states. Requires a master's degree in audiology. Typically requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A). Requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a manager. Audiologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     Audiologist

    The Audiologist will provide diagnostic, treatment, and rehabilitative audiological services to patients of all ages.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Assists in supervising student interns.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Provides rehabilitative audiological services. Administers and interprets audiological tests, develops a treatment plan, and establishes goals for each patient. Monitors progress of recommendations and treatment plans and reassesses as appropriate.
    • Calibrates equipment, prepares related reports, and maintains the audiological suite, materials, and supplies.
    • Communicates with patient and family and provides counseling when appropriate.
    • Provides case management services and makes client referrals to other social or health service agencies.
    • Logs procedures and submits charges to the department secretary for submission to the billing department.
    • Writes evaluation reports and daily progress notes on a timely basis.
    • Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge in field of audiology. Prepares and presents in-service education to staff and the community.
    • Assists in implementing and monitoring the department’s quality assurance program.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    • Manual dexterity to calibrate equipment.
    • Ability to relate to individuals of all ages.
    • Above-average communication, language, and interpersonal skills.
    • Unimpaired or corrected hearing/listening skills.
    • Skill in preparing written patient evaluations.

    Education and Experience:

    • Master’s degree or equivalent in audiology.
    • Current license or eligibility for licensing as an audiologist.
    • Certified or certification eligible by the American Speech and Hearing Association.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
