Audiologist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats a variety of hearing, balance, and ear disorders. Administers and interprets a variety of tests, such as air and bone conduction, speech reception, and discrimination tests to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment, site of damage, and effects on comprehension and speech. Being an Audiologist evaluates test results in relation to behavioral, social, educational, and medical information obtained from patients, families, teachers, and other professionals. Reviews charts, test results, and other patient data to understand issues and develop treatment programs to alleviate symptoms and treat disorders. Additionally, Audiologist monitors and evaluates treatment progress and adjusts care plan as necessary. Programs, fits, and adjusts hearing aids for customers. May require Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) in some states. Requires a master's degree in audiology. Typically requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A). Requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a manager. Audiologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     Provides comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitative services to patients with hearing disorders. Conducts and evaluates tests and prescribes treatment for patients. Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and educational experiences in support of departmental philosophy and objectives, as well as, Health System initiatives.

    EDUCATION/TRAINING:

    Master's Degree in Audiology.

    LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

    Eligible for certificate of clinical competency in Audiology from the American Speech-Language- Hearing Association.

    EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

    Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill validation tools. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Strong mathematical computation and teaching skills. Good interpersonal skills and ability to relate well with patients, families, physicians and staff within the organization and community. Excellent verbal, written, organizational and critical decision-making skills required.
