Athletic Trainer treats and prevents athletic injuries by developing therapies to reduce pain and improve mobility under the direction of a physician. Assists in exercise instruction and demonstration, patient evaluation and testing. Being an Athletic Trainer may require state license to practice. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in exercise science, sports science or equivalent. Additionally, Athletic Trainer typically requires certification as a Certified Athletic Trainer. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Athletic Trainer occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.   • BASIC FUNCTION: The Athletic Trainer will help athletes prevent and recover from injuries, as well as provide them with advice and guidance on how to improve their performance.  

    • Responsible for planning, organizing, marketing, and performing sports medicine, rehabilitation, wellness, and fitness related services.
    • Executes Athletic Training Program in the local schools both at their home venues, and occasionally at their hosting venue.
    • Treats and prevents athletic injuries by developing therapies to reduce pain and improve mobility under the direction of a physician.
    • Assists in exercise instruction and demonstration, patient evaluation and testing.  
    • Responsibilities will be performed at Grand River Hospital District, schools, physician offices and other athletic venues.
    • May perform sports medicine treatment with athletes of all ages. May oversee the work of student Athletic Trainers.
    • Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program, completion of an internship in athletic training preferred.
    • Prefers proof of successfully passing the national certification exam administered by the national Athletic Trainer’s Association.
    • Requires current BLS (CPR) certification within first 3 months of employment and must maintain active status throughout GRHD employment.
    • Previous working experience working in high school, colleges, professional teams, sports medicine or hospitals preferred. Must be eighteen years of age or older.

     

    SALARY INFORMATION :

    • $21.36 - $26.63 Dependent on experience may vary outside this range
