Psychologist / Clinical Assistant Professor - Psychology

    The Sorenson Legacy Foundation Center for Clinical Excellence and the Psychology Department seek candidates for a Psychologist position. Applicants must have experience in evaluating individuals for Autism and other developmental disorders. The hired individual will have a faculty appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Psychology.  Located on the main campus in Logan, Utah, this is a 1 FTE, 12-month fiscal year position. Review of applications will begin October 15, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2024, although an earlier or later start date is possible. The position is contingent on a successful background check.

    Responsibilities

    • Engage in evaluations for individuals suspected of Autism and other developmental concerns (e.g., learning disabilities, ADHD) as part of an interprofessional team.
    • Supervise psychology student trainees in conducting psychological evaluations.
    • Teaching opportunities in the Department of Psychology are negotiable based on interest and need.
    • As time and expertise permits, engage in and supervise psychology students in other psychological activities, including intervention work within the individual’s area of expertise.
    • Engage in service and outreach activities to support the mission of the Sorenson Center, Psychology Department, College, and USU.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree in Psychology from an APA- or CPA-accredited program.
  • Licensure in Utah (or eligibility for licensure) as a psychologist.
  • Experience and training in Autism evaluations, including proficiency with the ADOS- 2.
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal skills as well as ability to work well in a team setting.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of an APA-accredited internship.
  • Experience working in an interprofessional health care setting.
  • Licensed as a psychologist for at least 2 years.
  • Experience providing mental health services to youth.

    The Sorenson Legacy Foundation Center for Clinical Excellence (SCCE; https://cehs.usu.edu/scce/) provides comprehensive clinical services and applied training across the lifespan, integrating across multiple programs and departments. Services are provided by teams of dedicated trainees and professionals who also engage in cutting-edge research related to clinical practices and interventions.  Services provided in the SCCE include: Hearing and Balance, Speech-Language, Behavioral Health (including Psychology, Psychiatry, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling), and applied behavior analysis services. The Behavior Health clinic includes an Integrated Assessment team that conducts comprehensive interdisciplinary evaluations for youth and adults with suspected developmental / behavioral concerns. 

     

    Department Highlights

    The USU Department of Psychology is located within the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services. The Department consists of over 30 faculty representing diverse areas of psychology. Faculty enjoy collaborative relationships with others in the Department as well as other departments in the College (e.g., Human Development and Family Studies) and across campus (e.g., Sociology). The Department offers PhD specializations in School Psychology, Combined Clinical/Counseling Psychology, Behavior Analysis, and Brain and Cognition. The Department also offers an undergraduate major (BS) in Psychology, a distance-learning masters degree (MEd) in Professional School Counseling, and contributes to a multi-department PhD in Neuroscience.

    The Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services is committed to inclusive excellence in research, teaching, and service activities across a wide array of education and human service fields.  The college is home to eight academic departments with approximately 200 faculty who are engaged in innovative research and high-quality graduate and undergraduate education.
