  • Position Summary

    The Associate Director of Alumni Relations for CLAS is responsible for building relationships with and identifying alumni and other constituents for engagement efforts to support the strategic plan of the College and Foundation advancement goals. The Associate Director is responsible for planning and executing alumni programs, services and communications that engage increasing numbers of alumni, build a donor pipeline, and strengthen their ties both with CLAS and the university. This role will work in partnership with the Director of Alumni Relations, CLAS and within the CLAS advancement team. It will also collaborate closely with other teams within the office of Alumni Relations, various academic departments within CLAS, and the Center for Career Development.

    *This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule*

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Identify and build relationships with alumni for strategic engagement and pipeline development. Manages a caseload of 30-40 alumni
    • Develop and execute programs and events that foster continued alumni engagement and philanthropic investment in the CLAS and the University. Create, manage, and continually expand a comprehensive career and mentorship related alumni engagement programs for CLAS alumni and current students in partnership with departments and the Center for Career Development.
    • Support advancement capacity building within the departments, institutes, and programs of CLAS, including newsletter strategy, tailored industry programming, alumni/donor guest lectures etc.
    • Support development colleagues in engagement and stewardship of their prospects. Align outreach, programming, and engagement opportunities with the CLAS strategic plan in association with the development team and identify philanthropic opportunities.
    • Identify opportunities to reach CLAS alumni in different geographic areas including West Coast (California), Mid-west, and Florida.
    • Collaborate with CLAS and Foundation Communications to highlight alumni achievements using digital tools such as social media to create a more visible and responsive alumni network.
    • Build relationships with faculty and support the research enterprise of the College by highlighting faculty research through communication and programming.
    • Collaborate with colleagues in Alumni Engagement and Donor/Alumni Events to ensure that alumni programming meets the goals and objectives of the CLAS advancement plan. Support efforts to highlight CLAS stakeholders in key visible programming, such as UConn Forward.
    • the Foundation and University including CLAS faculty and staff, members of UConn’s cultural centers, other alumni relations professionals, alumni chapters/networks, and alumni affinity groups to ensure that alumni programming meets broad University, College and Alumni Relations objectives and makes the most effective use of resources.
    • Monitor annual operating budgets for all related programs; stay on budget while ensuring good return on investment and maximizing the alumni experience.
    • Serve as a liaison to the College’s student ambassador program, working with the CLAS Graduate Assistant on various projects that build an engaged young alumni pipeline, as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    • Ability and willingness to travel as necessary.
    • Requires lifting up to 25 pounds, moving equipment and the ability to move a rolling cart.
    • Must have reliable personal transportation and a valid driver’s license issued from the state in which employee resides. Employee must maintain, at his or her expense, automobile liability insurance coverage in the minimum amount of $500,000 or a combination of umbrella and automobile liability insurance coverage of $500,000. Evidence of this coverage, in the form of a certificate of automobile insurance, must be provided to the Foundation at hire and annually thereafter.

    Experience and Skills

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree.
    • 3 years of experience working in alumni relations, non-profit, association management, higher education, client service/customer relations or related field.
    • Proficient with MS Office including Outlook, Word and Excel. Demonstrated ability to work in multiple system environments.
