Spoke Sciences, Inc. is an early-stage consumer products technology company developing next generation ingredients for foods and beverages. The company’s primary focus is the delivery of plant-derived lipophilic components using a number of patented nano-particulate strategies. The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Scientific Officer and will carry out day-to-day lab tasks. He/she will contribute to the safe and efficient operations of a lab environment supporting new formulation technologies and approaches.

Position:

The Lab Technician will work closely with Spoke’s scientific team as they design experimental programs that support product development and strategic partnering of these products. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to Spoke’s long-term commercial success by innovating in the food and beverage ingredient space with nanoparticle systems designed to deliver bioactive plant components, as well as those that contribute flavor and aroma. The position will be based in the lab located in Bethlehem, PA, and will report directly to the Chief Scientific Officer.

As part of a growing team, the Lab Technician will have the opportunity to contribute to the scientific direction of Spoke and to participate in the commercialization of the developed products.

Responsibilities include:

• Monitoring and managing inventories of supplies and raw materials.
• Maintaining laboratory equipment and chemicals in an organized and safe manner.
• Cleaning and maintaining laboratory glassware.
• Receiving, labeling and organizing samples to be tested.
• Preparing test samples for physicochemical analysis.
• Executing established protocols for sample analysis and reporting results.
• Contributing to discussion and troubleshooting of results.
• Participating in company meetings.
• And performing other duties as needed and assigned.

Education, Experience, and Skills:

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

• Minimum of a Associate’s Degree or relevant technical training in Materials Science, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Cosmetic Science, Pharmaceutics or a related specialty

Experience:

• Minimum of 2 years of pharmaceutical, cosmetic or natural products laboratory, production or analytical experience

Skills:

• Strategic thinking
• Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
• Ability to follow instructions and strictly follow procedures
• Knowledge of how to use computerized and other specialty equipment necessary for testing and analysis of samples
• Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively prioritize work with a sense of urgency
• Driven and results-oriented thinking and corresponding high level of performance

Communication:

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to identify, discuss and solve issues as they arise

Preferred Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Cosmetic Science, Pharmaceutics or a related specialty
• Familiarity with active ingredient / drug delivery systems
• Experience working under GLP and GMP requirements
• Skilled in the operation and calibration of analytical and formulation lab equipment including HPLC, DLS, DSC, balances, pipettes and pH meters
