    JOB TITLE:   

    Assistant Professor in Conservation Biology

    JOB PURPOSE:   

    The Department of Zoology and Physiology in collaboration with the School of Computing at the University of Wyoming invites applications for a tenure-track position in Conservation Biology. The position is at the Assistant Professor rank at the University of Wyoming branch campus in Casper, Wyoming. We seek candidates who will involve undergraduate students in a field/laboratory-based research program using animals to address ecological and evolutionary questions with a conservation focus. We envision an independent researcher who will develop a strong, extramurally funded research program, and excel in a highly collaborative university setting through contributions to research, teaching, and outreach. 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

    The successful candidate will use techniques and advances in data science and computer science and contribute to an interdisciplinary cluster within the School of Computing. We invite applications from candidates using modern techniques and advances in data science to study organismal biology. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong, extramurally funded research program. We seek a colleague who is committed to participating in the community through teaching, research, service, and student mentoring. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in undergraduate programs and encouraged to teach in graduate programs, and be committed to mentoring and fostering diversity.

    REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: 

    This position provides vital support to campus and requires the successful candidate to work in Casper, Wyoming.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

    • Doctorate degree in Biology, Wildlife or related field by date of appointment.
    • Ability or strong demonstrated interest to teach introductory and upper division courses such as conservation biology, coding/data science, bioinformatics, herpetology or ichthyology. 
    • A strong vision for a field- and/or lab-based research program that incorporates undergraduate student participation, innovates with modern techniques in data science and computer science, and leverages the interdisciplinary environment of the School of Computing.
    • Demonstrated ability to publish research in peer review journals. 
    • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

    • Evidence of ability to secure external grant funding in support of research.
    • Evidence of effectiveness in teaching at the undergraduate level.
    • Demonstrated capacity to conduct and publish innovative research in conservation biology.
