MIDDLE SCHOOL FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHER
REPORTS TO:
1. To the Principal or designee
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:
1. A valid State of Maine certificate
2. Specific preparation to teach at the appropriate level
WORK YEAR:
Per MEA Bargaining Agreement
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teaches skills and knowledge in foreign language instruction to pupils, using a course of study adopted by the Board of Directors and other appropriate learning activities. Modern foreign language teachers (French, German, Spanish) teach aural comprehension, speaking, reading and writing.
2. Plans a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of students in a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of students.
3. Provides learning experiences that develop the basic communication skills, using tape recorders and other electronic equipment as appropriate.
4. Provides individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
5. Instructs pupils in safe operation of electronic equipment used in language instruction.
6. Develops pupil understanding and appreciation of culture of countries where the studied language is spoken.
7. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
8. Assesses the learning difficulties of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
9. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
10. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
11. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
12. Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time.
