Lead Spanish Instructor for 5-week Summer Camp in DC

  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*

    Provide support to students in the target language through EoTR Foreign Languages to Kids summer camp. Through this camp students will acquire knowledge in the target language through teacher led instruction, utilizing a curriculum and other appropriate learning activities.

    • EoTR Foreign Languages for Kids is looking for Spanish teachers to teach comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing to children ages 4-12 years old.
    • EoTR Foreign Languages for kids is looking to use a teacher provided support that concentrates primarily on the study of syntax, morphology, and vocabulary, with emphasis on reading and translation, and incorporating play for younger students.
    • Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy.
    • Provide learning experiences which develop the basic communication skills, by utilizing music and props as appropriate.
    • Assist in the development, understanding and appreciation of culture of countries where the target language is spoken.
    • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
    • Communicate with parents on student progress. Will communicate with families clearly, frequently, and with cultural sensitivity.
    • Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day, such as, field trips.
    • Ensure that instructional outcomes are clear, represent important learning in the subject, and are aligned to the teacher provided curriculum.
    • EoTR Foreign Languages for Kids is looking for a teacher that would require all students to think, problem solve, inquire, and defend conjectures and opinions.
    • The teacher should be able to use formative assessments to monitor learning, and capture information needed to differentiate instruction.

    Classroom Environment

    • EoTR Foreign Languages will assist with organizing teacher and student spaces so that all students can learn.
    • Maximize instructional time and foster respectful interactions with and among students, ensuring that students find the classroom a safe place to take intellectual risks.
    • Ensure that students themselves make a substantive contribution to the effective functioning of the class by assisting with classroom procedures, ensuring effective use of physical space, and supporting the learning of classmates.
    • Ensure that students and teachers work in ways that demonstrate their belief that hard work will result in higher levels of learning.
    • Ensure that student behavior is consistently appropriate, and the teacher’s handling of infractions is subtle, preventive, and respectful of students’ dignity.

    Instruction

    • Lead a Spanish immersion classroom, supporting student through classroom management and engaging in enrichment activities.
    • Ensure high engagement with students.
    • Ensure that the assignments allow students to make significant contributions to the success of the class through participation in high-level discussions and active involvement in their learning and the learning of others.
    • Ensure that students understand their progress in learning the content and can explain the learning goals and what they need to do in order to improve.
    • Recognize their responsibility for student learning and be able to make adjustments, as needed, to ensure student success.
    • Have high ethical standards and a deep sense of professionalism.
    • Focus on improving their own teaching and supporting the ongoing learning of colleagues.

    Position Requirements:

    • Teaching experience in (daycare setting, District of Columbia Public Schools, or other school districts, camps, universities, summer enrichment programs, etc.,)
    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education or related discipline from an accredited institution, preferred, but not required
    • Applicants are subject to background checks, if applicable
    • Willing to negotiate higher salary for someone with extensive experience teaching Spanish to elementary school students and/or background in science.

    We are looking for dynamic instructors for our full Spanish-Immersion summer camp, the summer camp runs for 5-weeks from June 26th to July 31st, no class on July 4th and July 5th. We are family friendly organization; teachers are able to bring their children between the ages of 4-11 to join camp.

    Work Location:

    • DC Public School building in Southeast DC

    Job Types: Contract, Temporary

    Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour

    • 8 hour shift
