    https://english.uark.edu/Summary of Job Duties:The Department of English in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, invites applications for a two-year full-time non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor in medieval literature and language to start in August 2024. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment.

    The successful applicant will teach two courses per semester on topics in medieval literature, both at the graduate and undergraduate level, with an emphasis on northwestern Europe before 1300. We particularly welcome candidates who are able to teach a two-semester introductory sequence to one or more of the following medieval languages: Old English, Middle Welsh, Old or Middle Irish, or Old Norse.

    The University of Arkansas has a vibrant community of premodernists and an active program in Medieval and Renaissance Studies that sponsors reading groups, conferences, and a colloquium series. The University of Arkansas, ranked as a "Research 1" doctoral university with very high research activity by the Carnegie Foundation, is the flagship university in the state system. In addition to teaching duties, the successful applicant will be expected to pursue an active program of research and contribute to the institution's research mission.

    Teaching duties will include designing graduate and undergraduate courses, providing curriculum material, constructing syllabi, leading classroom instruction, writing and administering exams, coaching students in the writing of essays, and mentoring and evaluating students.

    Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

    • Ph.D. in English or related field from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the date of initial appointment

    • At least one year of relevant teaching experience
