    Assistant/Associate Professor – Production Economics

    JOB PURPOSE:   

    The Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics (AGEC) at the University of Wyoming seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor specializing in production economics. This position is part of a group hire within the College of Agriculture, Life Sciences, and Natural Resources, with focus of supporting the livestock industry and the new Ranch Management and Agricultural Leadership degree program (RMAL). This group hire includes faculty positions in AGEC, as well as range and animal sciences. Preferred candidates will have expertise and/or interest in the economics of range livestock production, a commitment to interdisciplinary approaches to solving applied problems in both research and teaching settings, and a commitment to inclusive research and teaching. This full-time, 9-month appointment will have responsibilities for research (45%), teaching (50%) and service (5%). We particularly encourage applications from individuals with identities that have been underrepresented in economics.

    The successful candidate will support instructional needs in our undergraduate program in Agribusiness, the MS program in AGEC, and the new interdisciplinary, college-wide program, Ranch Management and Agricultural Leadership program (RMAL). Successful candidates will also support interdisciplinary research needs in the College of Agriculture, Life Sciences, and Natural Resources (CALSNR) in disciplines such as botany, plant, range, and animal science. The interdisciplinary applied research supported by this position will, in collaboration with our Extension educators, expand the college’s capacity related to the economics of livestock production, range management, and ranch management. We seek candidates who are eager to contribute to the research and teaching mission of the land-grant university and foster the department’s commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education.

    The Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics (AGEC) has one of the largest degree programs in the College of Agriculture, Life Sciences, and Natural Resources; supports UW Extension with outreach and engagement in production economics, risk management, regional economics, and environmental and natural resource economics; and conducts applied research to address the challenges facing individuals, communities, and business across the west, nation, and world. 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

    The successful candidate will be expected to conduct economic research related to range livestock (cattle and sheep) production systems. The faculty member will have teaching responsibilities for at least three semester courses per year, which will be a mixture of undergraduate and graduate courses.

    • The faculty member’s research is expected to lead to scholarly outcomes including refereed journal articles, book chapters, oral and poster presentations. 
    • This position has an Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) appointment, and the faculty member is expected to serve on a USDA-NIFA Hatch collaborative or Hatch multistate project. 
    • The faculty member is expected to seek external funding to support research and teaching where appropriate. 
    • The faculty member is expected to mentor graduate students and serve on graduate student committees. 
    • Teaching responsibilities may include coordination and interaction with interdisciplinary teams.
    • The faculty member may be required to teach across multiple modalities including in person, online, and hybrid formats.
    • The faculty member will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: 

    This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

    • A Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Applied Economics, Economics, or expected by date of hire. 
    • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.
