Job Summary/Objective:Sweet Briar College invites applications for a three-year appointment as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry, with the possibility of long-term renewal or conversion to tenure-track. The successful candidate will be an engaged scholar-teacher and have a strong commitment to undergraduate education. The incumbent will be expected to teach a variety of courses and laboratories that contribute to our STEM degree programs including General Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Quantitative & Analytical Chemistry as well as one or more upper-level courses to support the program depending on program need and candidate expertise. In the spring semester first year, the candidate will teach one course in the Leadership Core Curriculum, our general education curriculum; in subsequent academic years, they will teach two. The candidate will also have the opportunity to guide, direct and supervise undergraduate research projects. Pending a review near the end of year two of the appointment, the faculty member may be reappointed for an additional term; if the outcome of that review is very strong, the faculty member may apply for conversion to a tenure-track position during the third year.The College’s academic calendar, with immersive three-week terms bookending traditional 12-week terms, creates an opportunity for innovative courses to take advantage of close student-faculty interactions, travel courses, and collaboration across disciplines.Candidates ready to work with a diverse student body are especially welcome. Required Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in chemistry or related field. Applicants who are ABD will be considered if degree completion is expected by August 2024;

- Excellent communication skills.
