Professor - Chemistry provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Asst. Professor - Chemistry typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and contributes to research In a specialized field. Assistant Professor of Polymer Chemistry - Chemistry

  • The Department of Chemistry, Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS invites applications for a ten-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Polymer Chemistry Program to begin in August 2024.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Teaching responsibilities are in polymer chemistry and other areas of chemistry including introductory to advanced level classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

    Applicants must present evidence of outstanding publication records in polymer science. 

    Applicants should participate in department efforts to build an internationally recognized research program and should actively participate in supervising graduate and undergraduate student research with an emphasis on effective mentorship and professional development. 

    Applicants should be able to secure external funding from private, state, and federal entities to sustain a high level of research and scholarship.

    Additional expectations include advising students, active involvement in professional organizations, service to the university, college and community, and commitment to student success. Other service duties may include advising student organizations, participating in recruitment and retention efforts, and providing support to other department efforts.

     

    Education and Experience

    Minimum Qualifications- Time of Hire:

    Earned Ph.D. from an accredited college or university in polymer chemistry or a closely related discipline with strong research experience in polymer science. Demonstrated record of intellectual and academic accomplishments evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, professional presentations, and/or grants received, or grant proposals submitted. 

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    Research and teaching interests in polymer synthesis/chemistry, physical chemistry of polymers, and polymer structure-property-applications relationships. Research, teaching, and/or service activities that demonstrate commitment to helping all students succeed. Candidates with postdoctoral research experience who demonstrate strong potential to develop collaborations across other academic disciplines, including other areas of chemistry and/or chemical engineering, materials science, physics, biology, and biomedical sciences.

    • Skill sets associated with the use and application of common equipment and instrumentation in polymer science and engineering
