The Palmetto Dunes Property Owners Association located on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina is looking for a Director of Human Resources.
With a mission to enhance the quality of life, strive to protect the natural environment, and improve the resources of our community for all those who live, invest, work and play here, PDPOA will be regarded as the best residential beach resort community in the southeast. It is governed by a homeowner Board of Directors which oversees the community through onsite management led by the Chief Executive Officer.
This position will report directly to the CEO and is responsible for performing people-related duties on a professional level while working closely with the management team. This position owns the responsibilities in the following areas:
Employee Recruitment, Relations and Retention (find them, grow them, and keep them)
The Director of Human Resources is responsible to finding employees by:
· Heading up all recruiting efforts and consistently look for top talent
· Promoting PDPOA as a best place to work
· Interfacing with managers on their employment needs
· Writing and updating job descriptions and job postings
· Vetting resumes
· Conducting initial interviews
· Conducting background and reference checks
· And finally hiring of all employees of PDPOA
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for growing employees by:
· Having a dynamic onboarding process that sets the stage for the future
· Offering employee training on relevant employee and management topics
· Creating an environment where there is staff interaction among all levels
· Consistently exploring best practices for each department
· And finally engaging with management on new initiatives
The Director of Human Resources is responsible for keeping employees by:
· Acknowledging staff for achieving professional milestones and years of service
· Having a targeted focus on employee morale
· Understanding past and current compensation as well as market trends
· Auditing performance-based incentives
· Being an advocate for inter-staff promotions
· Interacting with night shift employees
· Offering a diverse and competitive benefits package
Payroll and Benefits Administration (healthy, safe and happy)
· Administers and communicates health benefits, vacation time, 401K and other benefit-related programs to employees
· Creates and prepares safety and wellness programs
· Performs benefits administration
· Hears and resolves employee and supervisor grievances
· Handles internal counselling and outplacement counseling
· Organizes employee appreciation and recognition events and team building exercises
· Creates an employee newsletter
· Promotes inter-departmental relationships
· Conducts annual salary surveys and evaluates benefits
· Implements a bonus program for hourly and salaried employees
· Reviews all benefits and policies on an annual basis
· Processes bi-weekly payroll for all employees
· Ensure all payroll information and records are maintained in accordance with statutory requirements
Performance Management (challenge and hold them accountable)
· Understand the current performance evaluation programs and revise as necessary
· Prepare individual employment development plans
· Train managers in best practices to coach and discipline employees
Employment Law Compliance (keep the team straight)
· Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment
· Is an advocate for better employment laws to fit the PDPOA needs
· Engages management in understanding and training on federal and state employee laws and rights
· Prepares and maintains employee handbook and policies and procedures manual
· Creates exit/separation/termination policies and procedures checklist
