PURPOSE
The Deputy HR Director is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and administration of all aspects of the Human Resources function. This position will serve as a key partner to the Senior Director of HR, providing leadership and oversight for a variety of HR functions. This critical role will provide support to ensure the smooth operation of the HR department and the successful implementation of HR initiatives that support our growing organization.

Supervises: Human Resources Employees
Liaison To: Tlingit & Haida Leadership & Staff
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Partner with the Senior Director of HR to develop and implement the overall HR strategy, aligning it with goals and objectives.
• Oversee day-to-day operations of specific HR functions as requested by Senior HR Director.
• Manage a team of HR professionals, providing coaching, mentorship, and performance management.
• Lead and participate in HR projects, ensuring successful completion on time and within budget.
• Develop and implement HR policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
• Conduct investigations and mediate employee relations issues.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on HR matters for leadership and employees.
• Stay up-to-date on current HR trends and best practices.
• Analyze HR data and metrics to identify trends and develop data-driven solutions.
• Represent the HR department in meetings and committees.

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of applicable state, federal, and Tribal personnel laws, and requirements

• Effective time management skills, including prioritization, organization, and the ability to meet deadlines, are valuable in many roles.

• Having a solid understanding of the industry, market trends, and best practices
• Familiarity with Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian populations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
• Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum 5- 7 years of experience in a progressive HR leadership role.
• Proven experience in leading and managing HR teams.
• Strong understanding of HR best practices and legal compliance.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build strong relationships with all levels of the organization.
• Experience working in a Tribal Organization or Government.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
• Master’s Degree Preferred
• Experience with HR technology systems
UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS
The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs. Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
