Associate Dean of Sciences assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of science. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Sciences provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Sciences typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Sciences typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Basic Function
    Provide day-to-day management and supervision for the academic programs in the Vermont State University School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

    Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Provide input on and manage the budget for the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
    • Perform classroom observations for full and part-time faculty.
    • Review and approve term course schedule proposals.
    • Work with the faculty of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences to develop and review curricula and maintain program quality.
    • Facilitate with faculty compliance in all nursing programs with national accreditation standards and state board of nursing administrative rules and regulations, including completing and submitting annual reports, mid-cycle reviews and other documentation as required.
    • Serve on faculty and staff search committees.
    • Stimulate and support new program development or expansion.
    • Review course evaluations.
    • Monitor academic program efficiency.
    • Provide project management support for the day-to-day department operations.
    • Work with external vendors for the procurement of supplies and equipment.
    • Approve part-time faculty hire recommendations from department chairs.
    • Handle requests and complaints from faculty and students in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences that require administrative assistance or intervention.
    • Support ongoing program accreditation work and identify faculty professional development opportunities.
    • Oversee articulation agreements and transfer pathways for programs in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
    • Participate as a member of various faculty and university committees.
    • May serve at campus-wide activities such as White Coat Ceremonies, Accepted Student Days, Open houses, Registration, and Orientation.
    • Support grant writing initiatives.
    • Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences.

    Supervision Received

    General supervision is received from the Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences.

    Supervision Exercised

    Administrative supervision of staff is expected.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Ph.D. or DNP (or in process) or equivalent in appropriate discipline, plus three to five years of relevant teaching and administrative experience, or a combination of education and experience which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
    • Thorough knowledge of higher education and administration practices and principles.
    • Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of individuals/groups inside and outside the VSC.
    • Ability to relate academic or special program functions to overall university programs and goals.
    • Valid unencumbered Vermont RN license (or VT licensure in progress).
    • Academic nurse educator certification (CNE®) or Academic clinical nurse educator certification (CNE®cl) is preferred
    Qualifications
    Education Required
    • Doctorate or better.
