Associate Dean of Sciences assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of science. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Sciences provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Sciences typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Sciences typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. The Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the School of Arts & Sciences, works in partnership with the Dean of the School of Applied Technology and the Dean of the School of Architecture, Management, and Engineering Technology, and reports directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Responsible for oversight and leadership for the School and the General Education curriculum, the Dean manages a budget of about $3 million, 6 academic departments offering 25 programs at both the associate and bachelor's degree levels, and more than 70 faculty and staff. The school encompasses both traditional Liberal Arts disciplines - English & Humanities, Mathematics & Physics, Social & Behavioral Sciences ? as well as Professional disciplines - Agriculture & Veterinary Technology, Physical & Life Sciences, and Nursing. Working alongside the faculty in these programs, the Dean is responsible for leading the School in the development of a mission, vision, and goals related to program development, recruitment, retention, space, and technology needs. Additionally, the Dean interacts with our community college and industry partners, as well as donors, as we seek additional funding for the School through grants, partnerships, and philanthropy. The Dean serves as a member of the President's Council, Dean's Council, Retention Committee, Red Flag team, and the Academic Affairs Collaboration Team.
