Associate Dean of Humanities assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of humanities. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Humanities provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Humanities typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Humanities typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     The Associate Dean of Social Sciences is an academic and administrative officer who reports to the Dean of the College of Humanities, Education, and Social Sciences (CHESS) and oversees the departments of Behavioral Sciences (BHS) and Communication and Creative Arts (CCA). They support the teaching, research, and service mission of the CHESS by discharging responsibilities in one or more areas as defined by the dean and serve as a conduit for the communication between the dean’s office and program coordinators and university offices/external communities as defined by the dean.


    Responsibilities of this position include academic programs and curriculum; student affairs and success; faculty affairs; research-related activities; resource management; and other activities (e.g., shared governance, strategic planning, etc.).

    Requirements:

    • A doctoral or terminal degree from an accredited institution, in one of the disciplines within the [insert humanities; education/counseling/psychology; social sciences]
    • Must hold tenure or be tenurable in a department in the College at the level of associate professor or professor;
    • Understanding of and support for appropriate technology integration in an academic setting;
    • Experience working with diverse populations;
    • Experience working with budgets;
    • Administrative experiences related to facilities management;
    • Administrative leadership and experience in higher education; ad
    • Supervisory skills.
