Associate Dean of Humanities assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of humanities. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising. Being an Associate Dean of Humanities provides administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Typically requires an advanced degree. Additionally, Associate Dean of Humanities typically reports to a Dean. The Associate Dean of Humanities typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Job Summary

    As a member of the college's administrative leadership team, the Dean coordinates the implementation of academic initiatives, provides leadership and management for instruction, and promotes student persistence, retention, and success in a learner-centered environment. Collaborates with academic and student affairs administrators, faculty, and staff on activities associated with institutional and programmatic accreditation. The Dean is committed to building and sustaining a workplace reflective of and responsive to our community and student population.

    Essential Functions

    30% - Strategic Leadership

    Provides leadership within a shared governance model to guide strategic planning for instructional programs in collaboration with department chairs, faculty, and staff in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; operationalizes district and college initiatives, upholding the institution's mission, vision, and values; provides support and leadership to the MCC Libraries, the Center for Community and Civic Engagement, the Performing Arts Center, the MCC Theatre, the Art Gallery, and the rehearsal room at the Red Mountain campus; provides leadership and direction to department chairs on scheduling, departmental issues, and student complaints.

    30% - Collaboration and Continuous Improvement

    Collaborates with academic and student affairs administrators, faculty, staff, and community partners to promote college initiatives; collaborates with partners to develop and promote higher

    education pathways, including dual enrollment and university transfer; supports assessment of student learning outcomes; monitors data related to student success, retention, completion, scheduling, and related key performance indicators; works with departments on data-informed continuous improvement efforts; coordinates program reviews and other instructional initiatives.

    30% - Faculty Development and Evaluation

    Promotes faculty professional development; assists college leadership with recruiting and retaining faculty; conducts faculty evaluations; participates in the department chair evaluation process.

    10% - Other Service and Compliance Activities

    Performs duties required of all college senior administrators, including executive councils and committees, budget oversight, grant administration, compliance with district and government policies, community outreach, and district assignments; performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications for Academic pathway: Master's Degree in a teaching field related to area(s) of assignment and four years of experience in an academic leadership and/or supervisory role in higher education and three years of teaching that includes curriculum/coursework development. Examples of academic leadership/supervisory experience includes: division/department chair, project management, policy development, administration, evaluation and compliance, committee leadership, program director, and shared governance. No degree equivalency.

    Desired Qualifications

    A. Higher education teaching experience

    B. Higher education leadership experience

    C. Experience providing leadership for multiple departments in a complex system, such as a multi-campus college or multi-college system

    D. Experience in developing and implementing innovative academic programs and services

    E. Experience in student-centered class schedule development using relevant information systems (such as Student Information Systems, Tableau, Human Capital Management)

    F. Experience with assessment and improvement of academic programs, academic service departments, and student learning outcomes

    G. Demonstrated professional experience using data-informed decision-making

    H. Experience providing leadership for academic libraries, academic service departments, performing arts facilities, and/or centers for community and civic engagement.

    Special Working Conditions

    This position requires considerable work schedule flexibility as there are special events, activities, and issues requiring evening and weekend hours. Summer hours vary

    Will be required to travel or be assigned to any MCCCD locations.
