Associate Dean of Business assists Dean with the management of administrative functions of the college of business. Collaborates with Dean on planning college strategic initiatives and supports on college fundraising.     Description

    The Division of Business, Leadership, and Communication at Columbia College invites applications for division dean (tenure-track, rank open) to begin August 2024 with strong leadership skills, strategic vision, and teaching focus in business, communication, entrepreneurship, organizational leadership, non-profit management, or related areas. The ideal leader will demonstrate success in championing an academic area and leveraging interdisciplinary educational opportunities that link business, leadership, and communication as well as disciplinary areas that extend beyond current disciplines to areas such as nonprofit management or social business/entrepreneurialism. The ideal candidate will be an engaged member of the Academic Affairs leadership team and will advance and support an integrated division that includes academic programs that also leverage community engagement and best practices in teaching and learning, including experiential learning.

    The Division of Business, Leadership, and Communication serves over 300 students, offering a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs in business administration, community and organizational leadership, communication, hospitality, accounting, and sports management. Programs are offered in day, evening, and online formats. Students are equipped for a variety of professions based on internship and research opportunities to maximize their professional preparation. The division’s strengths lie in supportive faculty and students with a commitment to enabling students to develop professional acumen. The College and the Division are committed to social justice and demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of underserved and marginalized populations. Academic programs balance strong liberal roots and deep, relevant content to foster personal and professional success.

     

    The position is a full-time, tenure-track appointment that reports to the Provost. The Dean provides strategic vision and leadership to division faculty and oversees the division’s undergraduate and graduate programs. Depending on background, responsibilities may include serving as chair of an academic program in the division, as necessary (to include advising). Other responsibilities include providing strategic direction for the division, planning and administration of the division budget; mentoring and supporting faculty to ensure provision of high-quality teaching and learning experiences, oversight of program review and assessment for undergraduate and graduate programs in the division; on-campus and online course planning; mentoring and orienting of adjunct instructors; and completing summer work (annual division report, faculty evaluations, and other responsibilities as needed). The ideal candidate will deepen and expand opportunities within the Division to advance to grow student enrollment, support retention, foster faculty success, and optimize synergies among business, communication, and leadership programs at the graduate and undergraduate levels, which includes developing and fostering monetary and non-monetary community partnerships and support for the programs within the division.

     

    This is a 12-month administrative role with a limited teaching load, preferably during the summer session. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to design and deliver courses in a variety of formats, including online and hybrid modalities. Candidates may teach core courses and specialized courses in their discipline area.

    Qualifications

    Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Business, Communication, Organizational Leadership, or related discipline, preferably 5 years of experience as a full-time faculty member, and at least 5 years of administrative and/or operational experience in academic leadership roles. Candidates must demonstrate strengths and previous accomplishment in leadership, administration, and teaching and learning. All required documents must be submitted for the application to be reviewed.
