    Muscogee County School District Superintendent

     

    PRIMARY FUNCTION: The job of Chief, Academic Officer is done for the purpose/s of managing the overall operation of District instructional programs and services; providing information and serving as a resource to others; achieving defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing, implementing and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines; and serving as an integral member of the leadership as needed and/or assigned.

       

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

     

    1. Educational Level:                      

    Master's Degree in job related field

    2. Certification/License:                  

    Designated Subject Matter Endorsement; GA Certification in Educational Leadership; Valid Driver’s License

    3. Experience:                                

    Job related experience within a specialized field with increasing levels of responsibility is required

    4. Equivalency:

    10 or more years of successful teaching / administration experience. Building principal

    experience preferred.

    5. Physical Activities:                      

    Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities

    6. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:         

    KNOWLEDGE is required to perform advanced math; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: teaching and administration; MCSD policies and procedures; local, state, and federal regulations.

          

    SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: must be highly conversant and comfortable with technology; strong people skills.

        

    ABILITY is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Independent problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: maintaining confidentiality; adapting to changing work priorities; meeting deadlines and schedules; planning and managing projects; providing training as appropriate; ability to communicate effectively with Board, Superintendent, central staff, local school staff and general public.


     

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    • Attends professional meetings (e.g. board meetings, cabinet meetings, etc.) for the purpose of remaining knowledgeable with current regulations and practices.
    • Collaborates with others (e.g. district administrative personnel, community agencies, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and/or maintaining services and programs.
    • Compiles data from a variety of sources (e.g. agenda items, etc.) for the purpose of complying with financial, legal and/or administrative requirements.
    • Coordinates the establishment of program priorities, the needs assessment for each component of the instructional program, system-wide decision making related to instructional needs, the evaluation of all instructional programs for the purpose of ensuring program effectiveness and progress toward stated goals.
    • Develops opportunities for teachers and staff to continue their professional preparation through staff development activities for the purpose of ensuring an effective learning and growing environment for both students and staff.
    • Develops and implements a wide variety of instructional programs and related services for the purpose of responding to the educational needs of all students within the school system.
    • Evaluates situations (e.g. involving staff, students, parents, the public, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
    • Maintains and updates the instructional philosophy for the purpose of ensuring that legal compliance is maintained and that the goals for the District are being met.
    • Oversees division responsibility for assigned federal educational programs (e.g. Title I, Title II-A, and CTAE, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining legal compliance and program effectiveness while ensuring adequate progress toward stated goals.
    • Oversees division financial activity for the purpose of maintaining legal compliance while ensuring that allocations are accurate and expenses are within budget expectations.
    • Prepares a wide variety of written materials in a wide variety of sometimes complex and confidential formats (e.g. agenda items, newsletters, reports, memos, letters, policies, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, conveying information and/or generally ensuring the effective implementation of assigned District priorities.
    • Provides leadership to the instructional division (e.g. coordination of job assignments, management functions, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring an effective and positive learning environment.
    • Recommends to the Superintendent of Education appropriate operating policies regarding the instructional program for the purpose of conveying information about the program needs and ensuring that related District goals are achieved in an effective and timely manner.
    • Performs other related duties, as assigned by the Superintendent of Education for the purpose of ensuring the efficient, effective functioning of the work unit.

            

     This position is eligible for a relocation stipend to the selected candidate.
