Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks.     The University of Hawai‘i at Manoa, Thompson School of Social Work & Public Health, Department of Social Work invites applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions to begin August 2024. Applicants who are ABD will be considered; however, degree requirements must be met by the effective date of appointment.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Teach social work courses, with a focus on undergraduate and graduate quantitative methods and/or a focus on undergraduate education;
    • Conduct research and scholarly activity with relevance to Hawai‘i and/or the Asia and the Pacific regions;
    • Seek extramural funding and publish in peer-reviewed journals;
    • Serve as academic advisor to students, supervise independent study research activities, and participate on committees in charge of candidates for advanced degrees;
    • Render service to the profession and community relevant to academic/research specialty;
    • Serve on Department and University committees;
    • Participate in curriculum development and utilize technology innovations in program curricular activities.

    Minimum Qualifications                                                                                                                    
    •  Doctorate from a college or university of recognized standing in social work or related field;
    • Demonstrated ability as a teacher;
    • Demonstrated scholarly achievements.
    • Poise and good address for meeting and conferring with others.
    Desirable Qualifications 
    • MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited college or university;
    • Two years post-MSW practice experience;
    • Scholarly work focused on rural health and/or Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and/or Filipino populations that contribute to the mission of the School to create and disseminate new knowledge to increase social justice.
    • Successful record in, or demonstrated potential for, securing extramural funding; 
    • Strong commitment to, knowledge of, and/or experience with the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa mission and purpose of positioning the university as a leading Indigenous-serving higher education institution and the department’s commitment to decolonizing social work practice;
    • History of teaching undergraduate-level social work courses or quantitative methods courses; demonstrated ability to use instructional technology in teaching.
