T
Psychology Postdoctoral Resident | Private Practice
  • The Psychology Group Fort Lauderdale
  • Fort Lauderdale, FL FULL_TIME
  • NOW HIRING: Hardworking and warm-hearted postdoctoral fellow with a knack for evidence-based therapy.

    What’s the catch?

Let’s get the bad news out of the way. We are serious about being the best group of providers in South Florida and everyone on staff is held to the highest of professional standards. If you are someone who feels they’ve mastered all there is to learn in this career, this job isn’t going to be a fit for you. If you are seeking a lot of autonomy without any accountability, it might feel like our practice is obsessed with data, outcomes, mission, and learning. Dream teams come from dream requirements. This job isn’t for everyone.

    Now to the good news.

First, not only are we dedicated to being the best providers for our clients, The Psychology Group is also fiercely committed to being the BEST place to work. We value humor, fun, and kindness. Therapists who believe solo practice feels a bit lonely and/or daunting, are the ones who most appreciate the camaraderie and support that our practice enjoys. There is tremendous trust among team members and leadership; we count on each other and enthusiastically lift each other up. Our practice is a safe place to give and receive feedback, learn, and grow. Think: high expectations balanced with humanity.

Each Friday, we meet as a team. During these weekly team meetings, we either have case consultations, training in evidence based practices, brainstorm new & fresh ideas, discuss charitable contributions, and/or work on social media/blog posts. Every month and quarter, we analyze our data/outcomes, course-correct where needed, and proudly celebrate wins. Frequently, the staff is surprised with parties, games, food, and gifts. We see these types of activities as fuel in our productivity gas tanks.

Second, our unique business model allows us to make a meaningful impact in our community. By being a predominately self-pay practice, we can bypass the restrictive limitations and burdensome red tape that an insurance-based practice is tethered to. We are able to collect fair compensation for our work while reserving several spots for marginalized/underserved folx in the community. In fact, 20% of our clients receive our scholarship stipend and/or have a reduced rate for services. This model allows us to remain energized, passionate, AND serve those with limited access to therapy. Insurance coverage does not equal access to care.

    Our Why

What we think about our team members is simple. They're family.

We may not be able to compete with the latitude of a 100% remote job. And the salary may not fund your yacht wax and jet fuel. But what we can guarantee is that we genuinely want to enrich the lives of our team members. The bedrock of our company culture rests on the core belief that employees are a company’s most precious asset. You will be valued, respected, and listened to.

There is a significant amount of flexibility by way of making your own schedule, taking time off when you need it, working from home part of the time, and working with your ideal clients. And there is real opportunity for growth. You will be encouraged to create the career of your dreams whether that’s providing therapy to your ideal clients full-time, or expanding your role to include other tasks and responsibilities beyond the scope of 1:1 therapy.

Our team members are like-minded in that we believe everyone wants to succeed and be engaged in meaningful, purposeful work in a place that’s collaborative, fun, and vision driven. Therefore, we hire to compliment our strengths and counter our weaknesses. The result is a more diverse and stronger team. Our mission is to change the way people think about mental healthcare, both the consumers and its providers.

What’s a typical day in TPG life?

9:30-9:45am Arrive to office, make self a yummy coffee, and catch up with colleagues

    10-12 See two ideal clients

    12-1 Grab lunch/run an errand

1-1:30 Write progress notes and visit with your work BFF

1:30-3:30 See two more awesome clients

3:30-4 Write progress notes, have a snack, talk shop with your supervisor

4-6:00 See your last two clients

6:00 Head home with plenty of energy for your personal life

What's unique about the postdoc position is the opportunity to obtain specialized training within a boutique private practice setting. The resident will achieve advanced knowledge of business development, professional development, and gain thorough experience treating clients with a variety of mental health presentations.

The postdoctoral residency is a 13 months, full-time, 2,000-hour training year. Trainings will include two hours of 1:1 weekly supervision, group case consultations/education, and some self study.

Really want the job? Tips for getting an interview:

    • We're very invested in finding the right people for our practice. Be sure to carefully review this job post and our website as there's a lot of information to help you discern if we're a good fit. https://thepsychologygroup.com/
    • We read cover letters first. Candidates that don't submit a cover letter don't have much of a chance of getting hired with us. We really, really, (really) value a thoughtful cover letter, so put some effort into writing an original one. Be sure to show us your commitment to EBPs and how you use them. Don't simply list various treatment modalities, instead, describe how you use EBPs with your ideal client. We want to know who you do your best work with and what kind of specialization you'll bring to the practice. Tell us what you're passionate about and what's unique about you.
    • We have an eye for detail and notice others who do too. Include something specific from our website and the secret phrase "twinkle toes" in your cover letter that lets us know that you did your homework to determine that we're a good fit for each other (did we mention how much we look at cover letters?).
    • We take extra note of candidates who go above and beyond the minimum application requirements. We strongly recommend submitting the optional materials (blog & report). Never written a blog before? No problem. Give it your best shot and showcase a sample of what you might like to write about.
