Assoc. Professor - Philosophy teaches courses in the discipline area of philosophy. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Assoc. Professor - Philosophy provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Assoc. Professor - Philosophy typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks.     POSITION SUMMARY


    The Department of Philosophy at Benedictine College invites outstanding teachers to apply for a tenure-track appointment in Philosophy starting Fall 2024. We are looking for a person with expertise in the philosophy of nature. Prior undergraduate teaching experience in this area is strongly preferred. Candidates are also expected to teach courses in the Philosophy core. (See our College Catalog for other offerings in philosophy.) Some undergraduate thesis supervision is also to be expected. Applicants must be supportive of the mission of a Catholic college, as outlined in Ex corde ecclesiae; demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the Catholic philosophical tradition; and be dedicated to high quality liberal arts teaching at a residential college. Applicants should also possess a Doctorate in Philosophy. We anticipate hiring at the assistant professor level. Review of applications will begin on 30 November and continue until the position is filled.

    Requirements

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


    Faculty at Benedictine teach a 4/4 undergraduate courseload (Fall and Spring) and strive to improve as educators. They are involved in appropriate research and/or scholarship in their field. They also act as advisers for students and serve the college through committee work, outreach to broader communities, etc.

     

    POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:


    Competency Statement(s)

    The candidate should be competent to teach undergraduate philosophy courses in the areas of logic, ethics, natural theology, the philosophy of human nature, metaphysics, and especially the philosophy of nature.

     

    Education

    Applicants should possess a Doctorate in Philosophy by the start date. We anticipate hiring at the assistant professor level but will consider applications for higher ranks from outstanding candidates.


    Experience

    Some teaching experience is strongly preferred. Beyond disciplinary expertise, Benedictine College seeks faculty members eager to engage and support our mission.
