Professor - History provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Assoc. Professor - History typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Possible additional offerings depend on the expertise and preference of the successful candidate and could include courses in Mexican American History and/or related fields.
     
    Assignments may include evening hours and teaching at any of the Sequoias Community College District campuses:  Visalia, Hanford and/or Tulare.  Participation in the governance of the Sequoias Community College District by way of committee assignments is encouraged.
     
    Other responsibilities include maintenance of office hours, participation in department and/or division responsibilities, and the willingness to create and participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equity, which is respectful of diversity Districtwide.
     The candidate must meet the following criteria.  
    • Master’s in History
    OR
    • Bachelor’s in History AND Master’s in political science, humanities, geography, area studies, social science or ethnic studies
    OR 
    • The equivalent    
    AND
    • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students which pursuant to Title 5 §53022 is a core system competency and job requirement.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: 
    The Hiring Committee seeks the following:
    • Evidence of successful teaching.
    • Primary area of teaching and expertise in American History.
    • Secondary field or teaching expertise in the history of Latin America, Mexico, or related fields.
    • Demonstrated ability to teach Mexican American history.
    • Evidence of extensive history content learning or research at the post-secondary or professional level.
    • Evidence of ongoing professional development in history and teaching.
    • Evidence of enthusiastic participation in professional responsibilities, community, and campus service.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues on improving history instruction.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
