Job Description:
Westover School is seeking a full-time History Teacher for the 2024-2025 academic year.
The ideal candidate will:
Champion the school’s mission and core values.
Have significant background in historical writing and research pedagogy, a passion for History as a discipline, and a strong work ethic.
Be able to and interested in teaching AP US Government & Politics and AP Human Geography in addition to upper-level History electives of their own design or the lower-level introduction to historical skills course alongside other department members.
Demonstrate an ability to teach from a multicultural perspective and work collaboratively.
Possess at minimum a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with preference given to candidates with advanced degrees.
Invest in the school community and create an environment of belonging through intentional relationship building.
Desire to and experience in bringing the discipline beyond the classroom— for instance, collaborating with Westover’s Rasin Center for Global Justice, working interdepartmentally, supporting special programming and/or co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
Demonstrate they are a lifelong learner of their subject through professional development current in the practice of instruction and culturally-responsive pedagogy.
Understand or have interest in a boarding school environment and intentionally small school community.
Job Responsibilities:
Teach a full course load or equivalent thereof.
Advise a small group of students.
Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
Maintain a role on a residential life duty team to include occasional weekend and evening duties throughout the academic year.
Participate in regular department and faculty meetings and enthusiastically engage in regular professional development.
Attend assemblies, community gatherings, and meal times.
This is a faculty position to begin employment in August, 2024 with potential for on-campus housing.
