Professor - Economics provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Assoc. Professor - Economics typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks.   • This is a full-time faculty position in the Economics discipline within the Social Sciences department at Chemeketa Community College. In addition to teaching Economics courses, the full-time faculty position serves as the academic leader of Economics curriculum and is involved in program leadership, part time faculty guidance, curriculum development, college committee and service work, and leadership with transfer and guided pathways work.     Essential Functions:

    Instructional Program Responsibilities
    • Attends all staff meetings, and actively participates with other social science faculty in planning, oversight and assessment of Economics and Social Science curriculum
    • Works collaboratively with colleagues to create academic plans and program reviews, including Guided Pathways work
    • Provides guidance and leads informational meetings for part time Economics faculty
    • Actively participates in the retention and recruitment of students
    • Recommends textbook adoptions and library resources
    • Outreach to other academic areas to assure alignment of course materials (such as the Business Department)
    • Outreach to university transfer partners and appropriate professional associations
    • Participates in college committees as a representative of the social sciences department and assists advisory committees as needed
    Instruction
    • Meets/teaches all scheduled classes in a variety of formats, including in person, remotely and online; completes grading, and posts and maintains office hours in a variety of formats
    • Delivers instruction in a variety of modalities to meet program and student needs including face-to-face, remote, hybrid, and/or online
    • Provides timely response to student inquiries, advises and assists with students issues and needs
    • Prepares, develops and improves course materials, syllabi and curriculum; shares these course resources with colleagues including part time faculty
    • Creates assessment tools and conducts assessment of student learning
    • Maintains student records of grades, files grades in accordance with college requirements, and keeps students informed of their progress; reports individual academic grades when required
    • Participates in curriculum development and course revision related to program planning and statewide alignment
    • Participates in student advising and encouragement
    • Embraces appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functions; understands and utilizes available technology as communication and data gathering tools
    • Maintains awareness of current trends within area of expertise and incorporates trends into instructional activities
    • Participates in college efforts to meet instructional needs of the community and promotes the program within the college and the community
    • Functions as a general life-long learner
    • Performs all other duties required of full-time professional faculty
    • Delivers instruction in a variety of modalities to meet program and student needs including face-to-face, remote, hybrid, and/or online

    Minimum Qualifications

    Master’s degree in Economics from an accredited institution

    -AND-

    Experience teaching in a variety of modalities including face-to-face, remote,
    hybrid, and/or online

    • Bicultural/multicultural skills sufficient to select appropriate behaviors, values, and attitudes within different cultures during interactions with others

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Doctorates in Economics
    • Teaching experience in higher education
    • Teaching experience in a variety of modalities (in-person, online, remote, etc.)
    • Experience or demonstrated interest in teaching non-traditional students
    • Experience in integrating technologies into teaching and learning
    • Bilingual English/Spanish

    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

    • This is a 100%, 10-month faculty assignment of the F9 band and grade
    • All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
    • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
    • This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations
    • If requested, you must supply official transcripts within 30-days of hire
    • Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.
    • Successful applicants for designated positions must successfully pass a background inquiry, which may include criminal, driving, credit and full background checks.     PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

    Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds
    of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move
    objects. Even though weight lifted may be negligible, it may be rated light work if
    frequent walking and/or standing is required.

    Chemeketa Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
