  • Department of Biology - Jobs@UIOWA Careers
  • Iowa, IA FULL_TIME
  • The Developmental Studies Hybridoma Bank (DSHB) is seeking a Senior Scientific Curator.

Housed at the University of Iowa, the Developmental Studies Hybridoma Bank (DSHB) is an international resource dedicated to open-source antibody production. Our mission is to preserve and distribute essential antibodies at minimal cost for non-profit research. DSHB maintains over 600 recombinant mAbs and 6,000 distinct hybridoma cell lines, with many faithfully propagated and shared since our inception in 1986. Distributing 65,000 samples worldwide annually, we touch every corner of biological research.
DSHB seeks an enthusiastic researcher to join us as our Senior Scientific Curator. This unique role bridges independent research with the collaborative spirit of a university environment, outside the traditional academic pathway. The Senior Scientific Curator will be the steward of our esteemed hybridoma and antibody collection. Their expertise and curiosity will drive the expansion and maintenance of our inventory, ensuring each antibody's quality and efficacy. In addition to liaising with cell line depositors to grow the bank’s collection, the Senior Scientific Curator will play an active role in DSHB’s Research & Development team, and work closely with the Business & Marketing department to help craft the narrative of new acquisitions, shaping the future of scientific discovery.

    Why DSHB:

    • Be part of a mission-driven organization that's at the forefront of antibody research.
    • Enjoy the freedom of independent research with the support and resources of a leading university.
    • Influence the scientific community, directly impacting research across the globe.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Oversee the strategic curation of hybridoma and antibody deposits, enhancing DSHB’s global reputation for quality and our ability to meet the needs of non-profit researchers.
    • Pioneer independent research projects, steering advancements in antibody development.
    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, translating scientific achievements and reagent preservation into impactful outreach strategies.
    • Develop competency models to ensure product proficiency.
    • Become a subject matter authority on hybridoma technology in general and DSHB’s cell lines and antibodies in particular; provide technical input and evolving data analysis presented from immunology, molecular biology, and related fields.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.
