Primary Purpose:
Assist with all aspects of the dining room operation in accordance with company standards. Assist
with meeting or exceeding residents’ dining expectations. Ensure proper cleaning, storage, and
availability of all dining services cookware, dishware, etc. Keep dining areas and/or dish room areas
clean and sanitary. May be assigned to take a "lead" role in the dining room or dish room overseeing
the other shift dining associates. May be to assist in training new dining associates and/or provide
in-service training. Other relevant duties may be required or assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- High School education or GED.
- Experience in working with older adults.
- Kitchen/dining room-related experience preferred.
- General: Must complete facility dining orientation and training. Must present a neat, clean
appearance and demonstrate a positive, cheerful attitude.

Essential Job Functions & Tasks:
1. Kitchen Helper
- Utilize food preparation tools and equipment, as directed by the cook or Dining Services
Director.
- Able to complete simple food preparation.
- Able to use portion control when serving food.
- Able to assemble, dish, and plate food according to the scheduled menu.
- Help to minimize waste and excess food.
- Maintain high quality food standards.
2. Dining Room Attendant
- Be familiar with weekly menu.
- Prepares dining room for meals.
- Know basic plate settings when setting a table.
- Set tables with place settings and condiments. Replenishes as needed.
- Prepare beverages and serve per resident request.
- Set up bussing station in a convenient, yet out of the way location.
- Transport food and supplies to other areas of the building, as needed.
- Meet time schedule of meal delivery
- Follow service etiquette. Is polite and cheerful when greeting and serving residents.
- Be sensitive to and meet the needs of resident, following through with their requests.
- Clear tables between courses and at the end of the meal service.
3. Dishwashing
- Operate dishwasher according to directions.
- Scrape, rinse, rack, wash, air dry and put dishware and kitchenware away.
- Keep and inventory of dishwashing supplies.
4. Cleaning
- Clean and sanitize work areas, including dining room tables.
- Recycle cans and plastic in appropriate areas.
- Assist with cleaning of dining room and kitchen.
- Dispose of trash in proper place.
- Clean and maintain dining room appliances and dining room area.
5. Safe Food Handling Skills and Practices
- Practice strict personal hygiene including proper hand washing techniques.
- Utilize gloves when handling cold and ready to eat foods.
- Monitor and document time and temperature of food and appliances daily.
- Keep raw products and ready to eat foods separate.
- Avoid cross-contamination.
- Cook to required minimal internal temperatures.
- Hold hot foods at 140 degrees F or above and cold food at 41 degrees F or below.
- Cool cooked foods properly.
- Reheat to internal temperature of 165 degrees F for 15 seconds.
6. Other Duties as Assigned
- Support the Mission, Vision and Values of the Community.
- Other duties as assigned by the Dining Services Director.

- This position reports to and is supervised by the Dining Services Director.
