Leveraging the deep capacity available among faculty, staff, and students, Knowledge Enterprise drives innovation and collaboration across core research facilities, corporate engagement and strategic partnerships, economic development, entrepreneurship and innovation, innovation zones, international development, research institutes, and technology transfer at the university.

    With the full support of, in partnership with, and under direction of the Vice President of Research and the Associate Vice President of Research, the Assistant Vice President of Research Development and Intelligence is integral to advancing the research agenda of Knowledge Enterprise and of Arizona State University (ASU).

    Essential Duties


    Vision and Leadership

    • Work alongside the Vice President of Research and Associate Vice President of Research, and team members, to advance research strategy and associated goals, tactics, and metrics.
    • Develop relationships specifically with leadership within Knowledge Enterprise for the purpose of evaluating and enhancing success relating to discovering, securing, and executing grants aligned with Knowledge Enterprise research strategy.
    • Promote justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion through allyship, advocacy, and participation in programs such as Knowledge Enterprise DEIB Council.

    Operational

    • Serve on the Knowledge Enterprise Leadership Team and represent Knowledge Enterprise in both internal and external assignments as required.
    • Work closely with leadership in Knowledge Enterprise to support the continued growth of units within the VPR portfolio, to include, but not limited to, helping these internal units to set stretch goals, communicate out these goals, and align to Knowledge Enterprise’s strategic goals each year, and support these units with associated deliverables.
    • Collaborate with Knowledge Enterprise’s units within VPR portfolio to create more transparent processes around deliverables, to facilitate communication and efficient workflow across units, to enhance efficiency within the OVPR, and make recommendations regarding budgetary decisions.

    Managerial

    • Provide just-in-time information to support the Vice President of Research on emerging issues.
    • Participate in Knowledge Enterprise meetings, including Knowledge Enterprise Leadership Team and Core meetings.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    PhD or similar terminal degree, achievement in research and scholarship to meet the requirements for obtaining tenure and appointment as a full professor, and eight (8) years previous experience in a senior management role with responsibility for development and execution of strategic operational initiatives. Or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved.


    Desired Qualifications

    • Demonstrated respect and experience across multiple disciplines.
    • Demonstrated ability to build and lead diverse and equitable teams.
    • Experience in working across academic units to achieve research outcomes.
    • Experience with federal agencies and funding mechanisms.
    • Experience with research and/or grant administration, research compliance and regulation.
    • Experience with grant writing, project management, and/or coordination of large ($20M ) research grants/programs
    • Knowledge of business development practices and financial principles in higher education.
    • Familiarity working with diverse donors/partners including philanthropic, international, and corporate.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and administrative leadership managing faculty and staff.
