    This position will report to the Associate Vice President for Student Development and will be joining a dynamic program involving multifaceted responsibilities to support the growing programs in Student Affairs. The Assistant Director will have significant interaction with all departments within the Student Development Team (Student Activities Office, Multicultural Student Programs and Services, Gender Relations Center, Office of Student Enrichment, University Bands, Student Media, RecSports, Office of Community Standards, and Family Resource Center) and throughout the Division of Student Affairs.

    The position will also have significant interaction with campus partners and University leadership including Notre Dame Police Department, Human Resources, Risk Management and Safety, Auxiliary Services, and UEE. The Assistant Director will work directly with the Associate Vice President for Student Development and the Department Directors within the AVP's portfolio.

    Responsibilities will include but are not be limited to: being solely responsible for the creation and execution of a plan for recruiting, hiring, on-boarding and professional development for open positions within the entire group; assistance with long term planning development; working independently to identify best practice research and benchmarking in the particular area of Student Development and how that area drills down to each of the departments within the working group; coordinating of the Student Development team senior leadership meetings, monthly group meetings and larger gatherings; and performing special project work as assigned by the AVP on behalf of the group without limited instruction.

    The Assistant Director must also have the ability to step in for any of the Student Development Directors on a temporary basis should the need arise due to leaves or departures. The Assistant Director will also possess a commitment to the mission of a Catholic university founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross.

    Recruiting, Hiring, On-Boarding and Retention for Student Development Team
    • Responsible for the creation and execution of a plan for recruiting, hiring, on-boarding and on going professional development for the entirety of the Student Development group including Student Activities Office, Multicultural Student Programs and Services, Gender Relations Center, Office of Student Enrichment, University Bands, Student Media, RecSports, Office of Community Standards, and Family Resource Center .

    • Serves as the hiring manager or consultant for every position open within the group.

    • Ensures compliance with all recruitment, hiring and on-boarding protocols. This will include the recruitment of candidates, scheduling of phone interviews, arrangement of travel, hosting of candidates, pre-start date logistical support, post start date training, on-boarding and professional development coordination within Student Affairs and around the University.

    • Develops all strategy for recruitment, hiring, on-boarding and retention, researches and recommends best practices and creates the over all philosophy of this plan.

    Advisor to Associate Vice President for Student Development and Directors within this area with special projects on behalf of the group.

    • Leads all projects, including but not limited to: the onboarding of new departments and areas of responsibilities; analyzing and disseminating survey and NDVoice results; budget analysis; policy writing and revising; student group advising; University committee assignments. Projects are completed with limited direct supervision with work results often evaluated only at the end.

    • Identifies key areas facing student body and/or the Student Development area, researches new initiatives, recommends solutions, and implements new policies.

    Conduct benchmarking and research particularly in the area of Student Development

    • Responsible for researching and recommending best practices, in conjunction with individual departments, to create a culture of continuous improvement within Student Development. The Assistant Director will be tasked with becoming knowledgeable regarding best practices and trends within the fields represented in the student development group through benchmarking other institutions, and involvement with professional organizations. This person will also assist directors in leading regular reviews of their departments and implementing changes and improvements recommended by those reviews.

    Provide direction and support for Student development directors with planning and assessment. The assistant director will serve as support for departments in the establishment of assessment tools to evaluate the success of programs and initiatives, as well as success as it pertains to established division and department learning outcomes.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Masters Degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel or Related.

    3-4 years of post-Masters degree professional work in related student affairs or higher education field. Exhibits strong ethical standards in an effort to advocate for all students.
    Advanced relationship building, communication, assessment, program evaluation, and outcomes development skills.
