Job Description
Job Summary:
Assists with quality of life for our residents. Plans and implements resident activity programs. Assists and evaluates large group activities. Completes all documentation, state, federal and departmentally required. Meets the needs of our residents by adaptation to programs. Oversees trips and/or events assigned. Knowledge and ability to document episodic events, as well as care plan meetings. Works interdisciplinary with other departments and improves self-esteem for residents. Provides ongoing activities either in group or independently. Offers educational, spiritual, exercise, mental and other forms of activities for the residents’ benefit. Follows Care Plan.
Job Duties:

Provides ongoing varied activities for residents that will provide meaningful and therapeutic experiences to residents at all levels of functioning.

Provides individual attention for residents who are unable to participate in group programs.

Promotes creativity and assists residents in expressing and dealing with feelings and emotions.

Provides opportunities for physical, social, spiritual, creative and intellectual functioning by stimulating the body and the mind.

Promotes activity programs that will enhance the quality of life of residents.

Assists Director with establishing monthly calendars of activities that provide activities to meet the needs of every resident in the healthcare setting.

Assists Director with establishing a monthly Special Events calendar to include all residents and also provides joint programs with residents and family members.

Works in conjunction with Director of Volunteers to ensure adequate amount of volunteers are available to assist with various activity programs.

Attends care plan meetings as scheduled and provides input regarding participation of residents in activity programs.

Meets with new residents to establish plans to provide activities for new residents to promote and enhance quality of life.

Completes an Initial Activity Assessment for new residents to create an individual activity program that will meet their specific needs.

Assists Director with completing and submitting entertainment and supply invoices, baking requests and monthly department food order requests.

In conjunction with the Activity Director, plans appropriate activity programs for residents.

Complies with all Federal and State regulations regarding activities for residents.

Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations.

Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor or designee.
Job Requirements

A degree in recreational therapy or related field from an accredited college or university, preferred.
-
Activity Director Certification with National Certification Council for Activity Professional’s is required.

Minimum three years’ experience in therapeutic recreation/activities in geriatric environment. .

Must be able to follow written and oral instruction in English.

Requires exceptional written and oral communication skills.

Requires proficient computer skills.
Professional Requirements

Adheres to company and departmental personal appearance and dress code policy. Reports to work in a clean, neat and professional appearance.

Wears identification at all time while on duty, or representing Lions Gate at functions.

Demonstrates dependability and punctuality by reporting to work on time as scheduled.

Complies with all Lions Gate policies regarding ethical business practices as outlined in the Corporate Compliance Plan.

Maintains and ensures compliance with current requirements, including all State and Federal regulations including OSHA safety protocols and standards.

Completes annual mandatory education requirements (Corporate Compliance, HIPAA, in-service, etc.)

Assumes accountability for policies and procedures as contained in the Employee Handbook.

Maintains a positive behavior while providing quality services to resident/family members.

Follows the resident rights/abuse policies and procedures and follows the established incident reporting procedures.

Maintains and ensures resident and facility information as confidential material at all times.

Works at maintaining a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with departments, staff, co-workers and management.

Represents Lions Gate in a positive and professional manner at all times.

Maintains the dietary laws for maintaining a Kosher environment.

Attends departmental meetings and in-services as scheduled.

Accepts assignments in a cooperative and positive manner.

Keeps work area neat, clean and orderly.

Performs all duties of job to assure resident and personal safety and the protection of co-workers and facility property.
