SUMMARY
The FVCC Culinary Institute of Montana is a dynamic program committed to the teaching of culinary fundamentals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Provides career-oriented instruction and support to students to assist in the development and/or improvement of culinary arts skills focused in, but not limited to baking and pastry fundamentals; advanced baking and pastry subjects such as artisanal breads, chocolates and confections, European tortes, wedding cakes, plated desserts and centerpieces; hospitality; storeroom and receiving, purchasing and cost control, and menu planning
- Participates in menu development, conducts related instruction and production of baking and pastry items for college sponsored catering events. Integrates the use of locally grown foods from campus farm when available and appropriate.
- Participates in college and catering events, which may include on and off campus catering, course events; fund-raising events, donor lunches, and senior capstone.
- Provides quality instruction by using effective lesson plan development and strategies, and maintains budgeted costs based on lab fees and event related food costs
- Maintains and submits instructional records in accordance with requirements including, but not limited to simple syllabus and learning management system to communicate assignment related and grade result information.
- Provides lab and event requisitions for products by established deadlines; maintains assigned cooler according to sanitary standards; provides data and records for orders; maintains working relationships with vendors to ensure quality within parameters outlined by the Program Director
- Participates in purchasing, monitoring of inventory, and maintenance and upkeep of equipment for program.
- Attends and actively participates as a team member in meetings, and student or program assessment, as directed.
- In collaboration with staff, assists with recruiting students and marketing programs. Establishes relationships and outreach to K-12 students and staff to increase awareness and develop pathways to college success in career and technical fields.
- Ensures local, state and federal health codes are met and the kitchen facilities and equipment are used and maintained in a safe and sanitary manner.
- Acts as an ambassador for the College and participates in extensive relations with many constituencies of the College .
- Works in accordance with FVCC mission and goals
- Works with other staff on curriculum and instructional content, and effective uses of multimedia in the development courses
- Maintains current knowledge of technology and instructional practices that relate to the use of technology.
- Fosters positive student, staff, and community relations.
- Remains current in practices, trends and research related to areas of assignment.
- Attends related trainings, workshops, and professional development.
- Cross trains to perform other departmental and team functions; backfills for staff as needed
- Actively participates in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and efforts to continuously improve services to students, faculty, and the College
- Creates and maintains a collaborative and collegial environment with colleagues and maintains effective working relationships
- Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies
- Advances the mission of FVCC by serving on or convening committees and contributing in the community in college-related activities
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Reports to the Program Director, Culinary Arts
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The Montana Board of Regents of Higher Education Policy 730 requires the following minimum qualifications for faculty in career and technical disciplines:
- Three years’ experience in the occupation to be taught, OR
- An equivalent number of years of postsecondary education in the career/technical discipline, combined with work experience in the career/technical discipline
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree
- Associate’s degree in a culinary or closely related field
- Four verifiable years of professional work experience in culinary arts
- American Culinary Federation (ACF) certification
- Professional experience in pastry chef, baking retail and production areas
- Experience teaching or training in higher education or at a secondary level
- Experience as an Executive Chef for catering and events
- Experience to teach purchasing, savory, or service

- Ability to effectively teach content material
- Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC
- Ability and willingness to serve as an ambassador for the College by interacting appropriately with the college community and community

- Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds
- Ability to intermittently work non-traditional schedules including evenings, weekends, etc.

- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
- Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check
- Ability to respond in the event of an emergency
- This is a Medium Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry. Medium Duty involves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
