Description
The Assistant Controller position is a contributing member of the Finance team that assists in directing the financial affairs of the organization and prepares various financial analysis including interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules for the guidance of management. This position provides leadership and is a hands-on role in the day-to-day accounting and financial functions. These functions include monthly closing process, monthly reporting package, preparation of journal entries, preparation of supporting schedules, annual budgets, monthly forecasts, budget to actual reporting/evaluation, capital acquisition review/analysis, manufacturing variance analysis and recommendations, compliance reporting and various ad hoc reports. Position is also responsible to ensure data integrity for all transactions and documentation and that they comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Analyze and interpret accounting and operating information relating to all aspects of the business
- Be a leader in monthly close processes including preparing monthly journal entries, reviewing results, and preparing supplemental reports with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Financial analysis and statement preparation.
- Work closely with the Sr Controller and other department managers to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget and forecast, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the company.
- Develop and implement internal financial policies, controls and procedures; perform periodic audits to assure adherence.
- Plan, monitor, analyze and update Budget and Forecasts for the business unit.
- Prepare business unit documentation to facilitate annual review by outside accounting firm through coordination with Corporate Controller and Sr Controller.
- Support and post KPI's for senior leadership.
- Work collaboratively with the manufacturing team and management to generate and analyze their financial performance, including inventory and cost of goods sold.
- Manage cycle counts of inventory and ensure that internal controls are functioning as designed.
- Assists in the planning and coordination of physical inventories, investigates variances, review the performance of monthly cycle counts, and performs adjustments as needed.
- Fixed asset administration.
- Use continuous improvement techniques to increase efficiency, decrease non-value added activities, and use empirical methods to decide what matters rather than uncritically accepting pre-existing ideas.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations
- Operate with a high degree of professionalism, commitment, urgency and accountability.
- Lead and model teamwork across departments, to build strong and trusting relationships, where feedback around performance is given and received.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Skills and Attributes:
- College degree in Accounting
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Master’s Degree preferred.
- 5 years relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Public accounting experience preferred.
- Knowledgeable of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost control principles and internal control principals including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections; knowledge of short and long-term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets and product-line profitability analysis.
- Strong organizational skills; well organized and self-directed with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Must have a strong sense of personal accountability, taking ownership of initiatives, delivering top quality results, and the ability to independently complete multiple time-sensitive tasks.
- Possess the qualities of attention to detail, accuracy, thoroughness and completeness.
- Previous work in a manufacturing environment, including KPI’s preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task.
- Ability to be flexible in work assignments and hours.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to interface effectively at all levels both internally and externally.
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ERP applications, VISUAL Manufacturing experience a plus
- Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills preferred.
